Hands down the greatest professor I've ever had in that he is ridiculously knowledgeable and knows what he's talking about. If you took an excessive amount of notes, you were fine.. something a lot of my classmates failed to do. I learned so much in that class. Sad he retired!

Very helpful. He uses analogies to help students understand concepts. Asks if students have questions, dedicates entire classes to reviewing for tests and the final, provides study guides via Angel. Students are expected to read the book before coming to class, but I got away with just taking notes on the lecture and got A's & B's on tests.

He is a good professor with a quirky sense of humor making class interesting and fun but still forcing you to think. The material was easy to handle, though I recommend reading the assigned text. Don't try to memorize the material, instead understand how to formulate the arguments and rebuttals yourself; it is the only way to succeed in the course.

Worse class I've ever had. He forces you to memorize everything. If your response on a test isn't a word for word definition from the book, it's wrong. There's no point in asking him questions in or out of class, because you wont get an answer, just hints where to find the answer in the textbook (which is incomprehensible). Instructs, doesnt teach.

The worst professor I have EVER had. He is an absolute horrible teacher, he expects the student to memorize absolutely everything out of a textbook that does no help in explaining anything. It is just exact excerpts from the writings of philosophers. He is only good at 2 things: being a pompous fool and teaching horribly. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS.

Only take this class if you are majoring in the social sciences, other than that its worthless. Berkowitz makes it seem like its his job is to refute people's personal opinions and beliefs. He isn't very clear on things either.

*GREAT INSTRUCTOR* He has a perfect example for every theory or idea he is trying to express which makes everything so much clearer. My first college test was in his class and I aced it. Some people try to memorize instead of comprehend the material which is their fault not his. Challenging course but it only induces in depth thought.

Not helpful in class. Wants you to go by his word and not be an individual thinker which is what I thought Philosophy was about. Intimidated by adult students and defensive. A waste of my time and money.

Does not appear to like older students. Seems to prefer younger minds that have little or no life experience to compare to what he is trying to teach. In my opinion, his title as "instructor" is just that - he instructs but he doesn't teach.

He makes class discussion interesting and gets everyone involved. Don't take the class if you want to sit in the corner and disappear during class. He is very helpful inside and outside of class.

An excellent professor, he really encourages rational thinking and sharp analysis of the books you read (Phil 6). Doesn't like to give you the answers--wants you to figure them out from the textual evidence. Gives many opportunities to discuss and learn--use them! Very intelligent. Great teacher.

DOn't be intimidated by Dr. Berkowitz. He could try to relate to students in a meaningful way, but it does not appear to be a priority for him.
