Don't take this unless you have to. The course is way harder than it should be. I did well on everything and still ended up with a B. She does not help you at all and is extremely frustrating to deal with. Avoid if possible!

I have never taken a course that required so much reading and time in my life, especially an online course! The amount of time she requires for you to finish lecturesreadings in time for exams is absurd. It is nearly impossible to receive an A in her class. Good luck, she is NOT easy.

There are a lot of reading assignments and the material is enjoyable. The problem for me being as it was an online class u get 8 minutes to take your quizzes, it would get to the point where I would just randomly have to choose answers before the time runs out. I'm sure it was to prevent cheating, but I need longer than that to process questions.

Comment:
This class is an absurd amount of work, which is time consuming and difficult. For a 100 level online class, I had more work here than I did in all my other classes, and I am not making that up. I don't whine about easy A's, but an A in this class will take up so much of your time it's not even worth taking it.

Dr Ivantis is a professor who expects alot from her students . so be prepared, but you will learn alot about Russian Folklore. She stayed after the final to grade the finals because of snow conditions. It was a hard class. I winn not rate hot or not. there is no reason for this.

I am not one to go on rate my professor and bash a teacher but this is an exception. The amount of work in this class was more then my major classes I was taking that semester combined. 3 four page essays, 4 Exams, 20 quizzes, and just about three or four books worth of reading with lecture notes, book, and library reserve readings.

I understand that the class is supposed to be hard, but that is not grounds to belittle and talk down to a level 1 class. She bullies specific students constantly, usually those who ask an honest question. In addition, Russian is not my first foreign language, and when I try to ask a more advanced question, she makes sure to belittle me.

Dr. Ivanits is a great prof. You read a lot of folklore and epics, which all the exam material comes from. Not tricky at all. Fascinating class, I really learned a lot and enjoyed the assignments. The legend collection project was fun, and it was awesome to see the diverse backgrounds of my classmates. Sometimes showed video clips and music

I did not particularly care for Mrs. Ivantis. Her lectures were not well organized which made it confusing and she didn't take a lot of time to explain class concepts fully. On a positive note, she always answered my questions and was helpful.

Don't listen to the bottom ratings; she is a great person. Attending class (though not a part of the grade) = at least an A-. Take notes. You watch some russian folklore movies. Must read assigned readings. Recommended general humanities.

Linda is a great teacher, along with most everyone in the Russian Dept. The class isn't difficult, although a lot of work is required if you plan on keeping up (the syllabus forewarns that it is a work-intensive class). Ivanits is always happy to answer questions and help, and gives good feedback on homework and assignments.

Prof. Ivanits is an incredibly intelligent and challenging teacher, which may be the reason that some students have trouble separating condescension from their own ignorance. You are attending a University, not daycare. Read the materials suggested, study, and ask for help outside the classroom if you need it -- that's what office hours are for.

she's unhelpful, incompetent with the language, she doesn't answer your question when you ask it and refuses to let you re-ask it, and she gives incoherent explanations. oh, did i mention that she's condescending, arrogant, and self-righteous with her students, too?
