Last year I took Music Theory I with Dr. Marcel. I think she's an excellent teacher and knows how to present the concepts of music theory. This year I am stuck in a Music Theory II class that shows me how good my learning was last year. I think she's the best.

This class is taught with a free on line text. The assignments are heavy, but creative and interesting. She is a great teacher, and I would recommend it to anyone who completed music theory I with a good grade.

Comment:

The class gave me an advantage since all the resources and textbooks can be downloaded for free. Dr. Marcel used a lot of YOU TUBE videos and also the BCC internet library. All my assignments were difficult, but easy to complete using the resources given. I recommend the class to any body interested in music.

Music Theory I is a really fun class with Dr. Marcel. She uses an on-line text that we use as a resource, and provides plenty of handouts that make the concepts easier to understand. A lot of drilling is done. I really liked the course, and recommend it to any music major.

Comment:

Music History II on line was a great experience. The textbooks were embedded in the on-line course. The music examples were interesting, and most used YOU TUBE. I really enjoyed the variety of music examples used to explain the styles of music through the ages. I think it was a great course because Dr. Marcel organized it very well.

The class was well organized and provided on line resources and text books. Prof. Marcel has an ability to make each time period in music interesting, and applies modern day parallels with each section. I recommend this class highly.

Dr. Marcel's MUS101 class was interesting and diverse. The readings are substantial, but I also learned much. I would recommend this class to anyone who is willing to work.

Professor Marcel is knowledgeable but since it was the intro to music class the difficulty of the assignments were astronomical. There was 9 Assignments, with about 1000-1800 words each, mandatory instrumental concert to attend and write over 800 words paper, 4 tests, 3 essays with plagiarism check. This class was my most difficult class ever.

Finishing mus101 online, the assignments are creative and interesting. I'd recommend this class to anyone. She is very helpful with ALOT of feedback. All materials are available online. She's a great teacher and I have learned a lot from her.

Really knows music and enjoys working with her students. You can ask for help if you need it. Gives good feedback. Clear grading criteria. Had to drop class not class related. Would take class again

This online ENTRY LEVEL course has consisted of frequent extremely long assignments regarding complex topics to which Dr. Marcel gives no feedback, so you are left wondering whether or not you understand the work. Many other disappointments about this course, but there is not enough space to write here. I would absolutely NOT recommend this course.

Heavy workload. Little feedback or interaction unless you initiate it, but once you do reach out, prof. is very helpful, fair and flexible. Interesting format but could sometimes be confusing. There's a lot of material and homework. If you have a strong interest in music, this is a good course. E-textbook provided.

First off, she's hilarious. I had her for both class piano and music theory. She always tries to keep the class alive. She's super nice and is willing to help you if you need it. If you're experienced, she'll totally give you piece after piece to try out and will show you some cool tricks and things on the piano. Overall: great professor!

I was looking forward to Music theory 1 with no prior theory knowledge and was pretty upset how she taught the class like it was Music theory III. I also cant begin to tell you how many times she made mistakes on her own questionsanswers, constantly being corrected by a student. Wasn't helpful at all and provides no clarity or formulas for answers

Dr. Marcel knows her Music Theory. She has a unrealistic approach personality when recommending jobs for people and in genral but shes a good person. She seems hard to understand at times and stubborn. If you do take her class, be prepared to buy the text book which will cost you over a $100. She knows her theory though.

Easiest professor at Bergen! total of 14 assignments which are simple and easy, 3 tests which are easy, but some questions are difficult so read the chapters, and one paper about a concert you attended which is basically your opinion, really easy class

Wow is all I can say. Elective but the workload was more ridiculous than microbiology. Online class with 10-20 wkly essay questions about music and how it made you feel. I loved the concept of the course but the workload overshadowed any enjoyment. Extensive writing assignments 2/wk, plus opera critique paper. Dont take her if u have a heavy sched

This was a very interesting and enlightening course because each assignment included music listenings from different styles, that include jazz, rock, and mostly classical. I was able to listen in a new way and found the class valuable. There are reviews after each chapter that prepared me for the timed tests. I enjoyed the class!
