Comment:

This class was interesting, as Bro. Newell knows the Brethren, but the tests are ridiculous. You literally have to remember every minuscule detail. There are so many essays, as well as multiple quizzes on the Brethren. (4 quizes, 25 questions about details of their lives) not to mention the two other tests. This class was SO MUCH work. Not worth it

He really does have some interesting points to make, but I didn't love how his class was set up. The purpose behind his assignments is on point, but they aren't organized very well. I felt like his class was more focused on information than spirituality. He also keeps talking after class is supposed to end which is extremely annoying.

I thought I would Love this class, but I was quite disappointed. The information was Interesting and he is often entertaining. But this class was more of a hassle than something I enjoyed/learned from. The test prep is EXTREMELY general- you have to know everything. The final is cohesive.

Excellent teacher. He gives good lectures and really seeks to get to know all of his students. He assigns lots of assignments and tons of readings. Some of which I think are just busywork. It is not an "easy A" class. Several assignments and more than most other religion classes. Great teacher, but lots of work and some seemed very unnecessary.

It was your typical BYU religion class. If you want an A you can get it. His tests were fair but not super easy. It was interesting to learn about the Prophet and Apostles but it was a lot of reading and memorizing dates.

I loved this class and it was at least partially due to the teacher I had. Professor Newell really knew what he was talking about and helped us learn about it too. Some say the workload is too hard but I didn't think that. There is nothing on the tests that was not said in class or in the reading and the papers were not too long.

GREAT PROFESSOR! Loved his class. Interesting, and I learned so much. He is so kind and remembers your name. He takes interest in our lives. Quizzes aren't too bad. Tests cover a lot of information thoroughly, but he warns you of that. Papers are busy work, but not too challenging. He is very clear on what he wants on each of them. take his class!

Brother Newell is an amazing teacher!! He is filled with so many good and funny stories, and he stressed several times that he cares about us and our success in school. Not just academically but spiritually as well. Best Professor I have ever had! TAKE THIS CLASS!!!

While he was a great professor, I personally did not like the curriculum of the class. It felt focused on trivia and memorization about the apostles and prophets. He did a great job, learned everyone's names very quickly, and is very caring, but what was taught didn't change me like in some other religion classes. Not the easiest, but not hard.

I had high expectations for this class, and was severely disappointed. Brother Newell is an interesting character, but not a good teacher. The workload far exceeds what it should for a 2 credit religion course. This class has caused me so much anxiety, I'm taking a stress management class next semester. Yikes.

This was a fantastic class! You have to work a little for your grade but it wasn't ever too difficult or boring. He requires several writing assignments which really helps balance out your grade. I learned a lot about the order of the church and my testimony grew so much from the work I did in this class. I highly recommend him and the class!

You read a lot in this class. Mostly, though, because Bro. Newell just wants you to be familiar with prophets and what they say. You don't really use much of what you read. Its a lot of memorizing small things, but I did feel like I have much stronger testimony of prophets and apostles and I loved learning about their lives.

Great class. The midterm is kindof a big deal though. He will mention things in class that you need to know and the study guide is on Learning Suite. Start prepping for that right away and you will do fine. Nice guy, you will learn a lot.

Generally speaking I am not an awesome student...but this class was a piece of cake! Brother Newell is very interesting, papers are graded easily, he tells you most the questions on the test, he repeats questions on other tests, and gives study guides. If you are a lifelong member--they are concepts you already know. There is a lot of reading tho.

yea he is a nice guy. however, three credit hours word load. exams require online exam and essay exam for midterm and final. plus 3 quizzes, and 7 pages written papers. kill your spirit!!!

I loved this class! Brother Newell is so great, and he has some amazing stories. The papers are not bad, and the tests are pretty reasonable. Make sure to really listen in class when he points out specific things to study. There's a lot of talks to read, but it is definitely worth it! Great class overall.
