Comment:
Took her class back in 2010, and wanted to leave a positive comment. While I didn't get the grade I wanted, I can't blame it on her, she wants you to care, to work and to invest in the class, which I took too lightly. I went to her office a few times during the course and after just to share opinions and have a debate, to which she was very open.

Comment:
For an animal welfare professor she toes the line of animal rights, which is what my biggest issues with her were. However she's fun to debate with and is open to "argument" even in a class setting. She will help you in you studies but you HAVE TO CARE ENOUGH TO GO TO HER. The classes are large, she's not going to hand hold.

She is unclear to begin with. She asks for no opinions on exams, however almost all the short answer questions are opinion based. When taking notes you are told you don't need exact definitions, but if you don't write the exact definition on the exam, you get points off. The material itself is interesting. TA's grade the exams.

Easy class if you take notes and study, but I really dislike Lorna as a person. She's very rude and opinionated and honestly a miserable human being. Unfortunately, you just have to agree with her and you'll stay on her good side, but I really did not enjoy this class one little bit (and I really thought I would).

Prof. Grande knows her stuff and presents and allows for all sides and perspectives. I'm surprised at the number of reviews on here that think she forces her opinions on students--quite the contrary: she wants students to know all the arguments and be able to form their own informed, educated opinions.

I have never in my life met a professor or teacher so rude, angry, and condescending. If she has decided she does not like you, possibly for sharing an opinion contrasting hers, she will pointedly not call on you when you want to ask a question or add to a discussion. She is awful, not helpful, and belittles, embarrasses, and bullies her students.

Lorna should NOT be teaching. She is opinionated to the point of rude, and considers herself and her class better and more important than any other class at Umass. God help you if you need to miss a class for ANY reason, even though all she does is read out of the book.

Comment:
Lorna is so self-righteous because she doesn't wear leather and isn't afraid to show it. The 25-paper was done away with, but in the review sessions for her tests she doesn't answer questions clearly enough and can be extremely vague in giving assignments. I really didn't like her at all, and I love an sci.

The class was really easy as long as you studied, but Lorna is the ****iest, most self-absorbed person I have ever met. She think that she is better than everyone and thinks that anyone else's opinion is wrong. Here's some advice....make sure that your 25 page paper topic is something that she agrees with and is something no one else has done.

Awesome, dedicated professor who knows her stuff. She shares her opinions and experiences and does not force them on people. Regardless of your opinion, she will challenge you to back it up. Always willing to answer questions and offer help. She and this class offer a rewarding challenge that isn't found in many other AnSci classes.

This class is a lot of work. Very interesting and you always leave class with something new. There are four midterms, so you don't need to know a lot for each, a final and a 25 page paper. She definately has her own opinion and she wants you to participate. But if you sit at the front she wont call on you that much. Overall I liked this class.

The class lectures are always interesting and thought provoking. This class was a true eye opener and I highly recomend it. It is unfortunate that the instructor has such a bad attitude because she could be more effective in creating change within the industry if she were more helpful.

really good class, she is very opinionated but don't let it get you down. the tests aren't too hard, the paper is a pain but starting it early helps. also i loved the speakers and the fact that she brought her dog Rigs in a lot, he's a sweetheart.

I really liked the topics discussed in class. She is very straight forword and I did not preceive this to be a bad thing. Class can be life altering if you are open minded and want a change for the better. For a good grade on the paper, contact professionals and include them in your paper. She offers many opportunities to meet with people in the biz

What an angry woman. She needs to find joy in life. She says that she loves animals, yet she treats people like garbage and has admitted to a few not-so-friendly acts which, of course, "were in the animals' best interest." She is a terrible teacher and she is very rude to her students. I don't recommend her. Take Dr. Howe whenever you can! He Rules

Very interesting material, made me change some of my lifestyle. Many people don't like her as a person, but i never really got that vibe. The tests aren't bad at all. I didn't study any extraordinary amount and did fine. The paper at the end is the hardest but it all works out if u don't leave it til the last minute, and u get a partner.

The reason I gave this professor a poor rating is not because of her personal opinions, which she is entitled to, but her lack of professionalism. She can be adolecent in her comments and extremely rude to students. She treats you like an ignorant person because she displaces her anger. She is condescending and does not care about her students.
