This class was hard without prior programming experience. However, I would have made it without Professor D'Ortona. She helped me a lot, especially via email & office hours whenever I had questions with homeworks & projects. Her handouts, sample programs, homeworks, tests & projects were also very helpful! Start early on them u'll need it!

Worst coding professor. She lectures about big programs on TEST DAYS which waste our time to take the test! She expects full program codes on the test when you only have less time to do it thanks to her. Her teaching methods expects people to automatically know it after one lecture. Her exam review sheets are crap, it only focuses on one thing.

The handouts she gives are definitely helpful and she does a lot of examples in class. However, she doesn't allow extensions on things under any circumstances - learned this the hard way when I ran into health issues. Her tests are pretty hard as well, but she does give out a sheet before it saying what will be on it (and it doesn't lie)

I had never done anything with coding before this class. First day I was like "um what..." but eventually everything came together. She lets you use paper notes on labs so those are easy. She gives handouts and PowerPoint and tries to explain every piece; although, she isn't the best at answering questions. Not a hard class though lots struggled.

She definitely means well and is a lovely person but her class can be quite difficult especially for a foundation and 101 level course. The style of teaching must be departmental, because you really don't code much and I hear it's like that no matter who teaches the course. Very willing to help if you ask and is easily accessible through email.

By far one of the worst professors I've had in all of the classes I've taken. Doesn't teach very well, can't answer students' questions very well, and is very disorganized. Her "preferred" coding is archaic and trumps practical industry standard coding practices. It's her way or the highway.

I took CSC 101 with her, a very basic class. The actual work was not that difficult, but the way she explains the work can be very confusing. Not only that but she can be very rude to students who simply just want to ask a question and learn. The last thing id recommend would be to ask her "why" she does what s does. because she might yell.

I cannot fathom how terrible this class is. 12 people dropped out in 2 months. She gives out exams and tests BEFORE teaching anything based on it. This is basically a self taught class if you want to learn anything. Read the book; it helps a lot more than asking her.

She doesn't teach anything and isn't helpful with questions nor work. Her motto is just read the text and do the work. She doesn't teach at all. Very disappointed.

I took this class in Fall 2013 Online - Had to buy a computer to take it online (obviously) well they didn't sell computers with windows 7 at the store they stopped selling them once windows 8 came out. I explained it numerous times to the professor but Windows 7 was a requirement not 8 and because I had different things than 7 I got a C.

Cares more about her style of coding and commenting rather than efficient code. Not very knowledgeable of Java besides the very basics. If you miss a lab or test for any reason, cannot make it up. Hostile towards questions as to why not code something differently. As an experienced programmer who needed to take this class horrible teacher. Avoid.

This can be ridiculous. i usually would never come here to make a comment but she inspired me to do so. if you do not have experience in coding at all then be very careful with taking her class. she's not helpful in class and is very rude/mean when you ask questions or dont know what she is talking about. not available for office hours. doesnt care

I took computer science with Professor D'Ortona, and SHE IS A HORRIBLE PROFESSOR !!! Her directions are extremely vague and if you ask her any questions about the project, she freaks out. The way she teaches the class, makes it seem as if you're taking rocket science or something.

Prof forbids students from helping each other. In a 101 course this is ridiculous. Prof also does not want you going above and beyond on assignments. Prof is to stuck on her own ego rather than encouraging learning. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER!

Has only a superficial knowledge of the subject. Seems flighty and defensive when questioned about the material. Poor teaching methodology. a lot of material that she has us do seems to be to fill in class time. Even for a community college she is one poor teacher but then MCC never does anything about poor teachers.

Prof. D'Ortona is a nice lady, but not the best teacher. I took CSC 101 with a strong knowledge of Java programming, and I could tell she didn't really know all the ins and outs of it (like, she would answer simple questions with uncertainty or incorrect altogether). She's very preservative of her style; deviate from it a little, and she'll blow up
