Professor Groarke is a very great guy. He's an incredibly tough marker, and oftentimes isn't able to give much help going into evaluations (as he usually writes them last minute). He is very knowledgable and tries his best to relay the concept in a variety of ways. Make sure to pay attention in class because he will frequently call on you!

Groarke is such a funny little man! He has so much experience in his field and truly loves what he does! He is a VERY hard marker and anything other than what he believes is right wont fly on a midterm or exam. There are a lot of notes and reading involved with him and all lectures are oral so if you miss time you miss notes. Overall awesome prof.

Drinks in Mockler haha Seriously though, a total monster in the classroom. Know the material or get stuff thrown at you. Bit of an oddball and always off-beat, but if you put the effort in he's a fantastic prof and you'll learn a lot. He always makes an effort if you do and writes a killer reference letter. Take his ethics!

My favourite lecture during my 3 years at st. fx so far . It was my first philosophy class and despite my less-than-average final mark, no regrets. Amazing professor, the material is so interesting, and class time is the cherry on top! Get ready for heated discussions and be ready to read (but it's so worth your time).

A great class for an extrovert due to the excessive discussion. My first Philosophy course, wasn't expecting the test questions to be specific to reading passages, rather than concept application. Study the nitty gritty and you'll do fine!

Groarke expects participation. He will choose you to answer a question if you are not paying attention. BUT he is a great prof and really stimulates interest in philosophy. I had him for Philosophy of Ethics as well and I would highly recommend that course, too!

He told me I didn't deserve to be in university and that I should go back home. This was in front of my entire class and was his response to my asking for help.

If you make it obvious that you try hard/want to learn/improve , as dedicated educator, he will do what he can to help you. Phenomenal /engaging lecturer. Will take an interest in your holistic educa.(is aware of who are varsity athletes, actors, scholarship winners). Difficult- but gives detailed feedback on everything you hand in. One of a kind.

Engages often with the class, be prepared to respond to questions. I didn't mind his classes but some mid terms I often wondered if I was writing the proper mid term. Exams are fair and so is the amount of work he gives you. Some lectures can be PAINFULLY slow but if you enjoy Phil I'm sure you'll enjoy him.

He teaches down to the lowest common denominator in class, so lectures can be painfully slow. He refuses to move on until everyone is on board with the idea.

Relatively good professor, but if you're one to skip classes and not take any notes expect to fail. A prof who really keeps you on your toes - make sure to revise all class notes right after class or else you'll be left with incomprehensible gibberish, his lectures are sometimes hard to follow.
