Comment:
I really enjoyed professor Tsui. I struggled throughout the class, but the projects really helped me grasp the information. I was able to truly grasp more advanced concepts in coding through his teaching method. He taught differently than most teachers because he went at a rate that the class learned. He always helped during office hours too.

The class is beyond boring. I walk in with full energy and literally can't keep my eyes open 10 mins through the class. The labs are really frustrating since there's no paper that tells you what to do. You basically have to listen to him talk about what he expects to be done. Labs are due by the end of the hour. Not the greatest CIS professor at UMD

If CIS 150 is the only programming class you've taken DO.NOT.TAKE.HIM. He basically teaches the class to the people who have prior knowledge to the material. 3 exams, with 3-4 questions on each. So basically, if you get 1 wrong, you're screwed. I only honestly don't know why he teaches. He can't make it any more obvious how much he hates his job.

I recommend against having this teacher. He often wastes time, he is underhanded on some questions on tests, and he seems utterly un-enthused about any subject. I feel that deep down he means well, but it is not enough to justify perpetuating this man's career as a college professor.

Avoid him. Reads right out of the book. Notes/Lectures scattered. Not interested in topics. DOES NOT give partial credit. Basically if you dont do the problem his way (which the only ways he knows) then you won't get credit. Exams consist of 3-4 problems from 2-3 chapters. Meaning you will study your ass off and he will only ask couple questions.

1. At least 10 minutes late for most lectures 2. Poorly organized syllabus 3. Willing to help with material outside of class 4. He did not look very interested in the subjects he was teaching, in my honest opinion 5. Most valueable thing he teaches is to learn how to think independantly, again, just my opinion.

Taught the first half of the semester. Knowledgable with programing but not efficient when teaching it as his work is quite scattered. Harsh grader on labs.

Very very vague but seems to have loosened up according to prior comments. Very helpful and will be very lenient as long as you talk to him. I'd take him again :)

I had him for 200/275 first half. He expects you to know your stuff from 150 and spends the first week weeding all the arrogant slackers out. This gives the impression that he is too strict; however, its more like preparing students to become professional/independent thinkers. I highly recommend him if your're serious about CIS and your career.

Probably one of the most difficult professors I've ever had. He will tell you what has to be in a program, but he will never show a C++ program code. He has 2 exams and they both total up to 75% of your grade. Each exam has about 5 questions, so if you get 1 wrong, you just lost about 6% of your grade. His exams are pretty tough.

Maybe not the most exciting prof in the world, but he's pretty down-to-earth and explains things in a very practical way. If you don't understand something he will answer your questions in class.

Only take this class if you like teaching yourself. Professor Tsui is honestly the most confusing professor I have ever had. I took programming in high school and was still lost in this class, his teaching style is scattered and VERY difficult to follow.

This teacher cares nothing about his students. He doesn't reply to emails nor does he seem to care about much of anything. I've never had a more insincere professor. To his credit, he does teach well, but just isn't very friendly or helpful.

DO NOT take this professor. He ruined my GPA and my entire semester. He reads the overheads as opposed to teaching. He grades unfairly and does not accomodate anyone. He's notorious words are: "I don't know what that is, I don't care SO lets ignore it"...typical words of a 'GREAT' professor.

This THE WORST teacher. Never ever take any class with him. Totally, unfair. His exams are not fiar at all. He never covers any examples in class, gets angry if you ask more questions. His exams are full of surprises. USELESS..Runied my GPA

Condescending attitude, unprofessional demeanor, and completely useless lectures. Stay home and just read the relevant chapters. He requires you do ALL assignments with a partner or lose 10% of your grade. Absolutely zero assistance available outside of class, and best of all he's the only professor available for this course!

This prof is one of the most useless who I have ever had the displeasure of listening to lecture. His lectures are boring and not helpful at all, his tests are fair if you understand programming, and the programs are typical entry level programs, but his grading scheme is absolutely ridiculous, far too rigid and difficult. Stay away!

Probably one of my least favorite teachers ever. Bad lectures. It wasn't that the programs were hard, I enjoy the challenge, it was how they were incredibly time consuming in ways that did not contribute to the class. In visiting his office, "we'll go over it in class" was the most i could get out of him. Very bad experience & my worst grade yet

This guy is so cocky; he deliberately embarrasses the students in class by asking them dump questions, I mean half questions. Sometimes you need to read his mind and come up with a question and an answer.
