She is unprepared and unorganized. She is never clear about what she wants on assignments, she doesn't tell you what you need to know for exams. Both papers are pointless and the midterm and final are based on very specific details that nobody pays attention to. Horrible, don't take her.

She is a terrible professor. She never gets to the material she is supposed to and she never explains assignments. She also does not go over what will be covered on the exam and expects you to study everything ever covered. The class was not at all what i signed up for. She made the subject of sexuality studies horrible.

The class was not what I signed up for at all. She's obsessed with hmong people, advertising, and s&m. We watched barbie p*rn. You must do ALL the readings. Her exams are nit picky. She has favorites. She yelled at me for believing in monogamy. Must watch documentaries as hw. Lots of extra credit. got an a.

Terrible teacher. Not at all helpful, talks over all the guest lecturers, doesn't answer her email, and only accepts papers in person, even when she knows she has commuter students who will have to make special trips just to hand in an assignment.

She is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. I learned from reading the text and listening to my classmates. Her exams are impossible: Multiple True False ... if you don't know what that is I hope you never have to figure it out. She is condescending and blatantly tells her students that they are wrong, mind you she never even did the reading.

For the record I got an A in this class so my disappointment is justified. She doesn't teach the class. All she does is ask the students to read aloud key passages and asks for their thoughts and then poses extremely difficult graduate level questions that no one can answer. She often puts down students and refuses to put up a sakai site. Crap prof

She plays favorites, she is condescending and unapproachable, she doesn't care about her students or take the time to get to know them, she is EXTREMELY full of herself, she interrupts students all the time, AND she won't let you go to the bathroom. Seriously the worst professor I have had so far at Rutgers.

She never tells you what she wants because she expects everyone to read her mind, but she knows what she doesn't want and will let you know when you are doing everything wrong. She is a ridiculously unfair grader. Attendance is madatory yet she cannot even remember all of her 30 students names. Never clear, grades subjectively, and belittling!

The material was pretty straightforward and interesting. Mandatory movie screenings the night before. As long as you pay attention in class and participate you'll do fine. Two short papers that were really easy to do. The readings provided most of the material that ended up on the exams so you need to keep up with the readings.

Make sure that if you're taking Anthro 101, its with Schein. Everyone else is horrible. Her exams are easy, your TA's will tell you whats on them 85% of the time, the other 15 % you can get from going to lecture. Good Lectures. Plus she'll recommend courses for you, which you def. should ask for because it will lead to straight A's in anthro.

gender and consumption...i would not recommend that class with this professor. i was very interested in the material before the class, but she is very hard to listen to. in a small class she could not learn 30 kids names, it was annoying. unfair grader, never said exaactly what she wanted but expected you to do it.

Great teacher and class! Interesting lectures and reading material, although reviews in recitation allowed you to skip it. The tests weren't hard and the grading was fair; I got a B+. Very knowledgeable and helpful. I'd love to take more classes with her.

She provides interesting reading material (for anthro geeks like me), but the lectures were so dry, and I sat in the front row and I still fell asleep. Thankfully, her TAs were masters at reteaching her material in an interesting way. The class itself isn't bad, but if it weren't for my TA, I probably wouldn't be an anthro major right now.

Extremely horrible teacher, she drifts off alot and expects the most details. Horrible grader as well. TA's don't agree with the grades that were assigned. I got a D on the first exam, a B on the second, and got an A on the final and she still gave me a D. Do not take this class.

Go to lecture but you don't have to do the on-line readings. Generated some interest in the material and you could tell she enjoyed what she did. Much of course similar to Human Ecology with George Clark.

Do not take this course with Professor Schein. While she knows quite a bit about anthro, she has trouble talking about it. Basically reads straight from a paper. Readings are somewhat interesting but VERY dry. Try to absorb what you can from recitation

DON'T take this class if she is teaching it-she makes anthro seem like the most boring subject in the world-which it's not. Take Human Ecology with Professor Clark instead for the same kind of topics but a lot more fun. All she does is show movies or talk about the same five things over and OVER again. Chelsea and Debarati are good TAs though.

Lots and lots of reading, but interesting subject matter. She really knows her stuff. 3-4 pop quizzes. 3 midterms, 2 assignments, and a take-home final. Exams are tricky, weird format. If you get Chelsea as your TA, she's really helpful.
