Comment:
Professor Valerio is clearly passionate about literature and teaching, but with that she tends to lecture a lot, and class can get a bit long. If you're ready to invest 15 or so hours a week into reading and participate in discussion, it's a great class. If you don't finish the reading, it'll probably be fine, just boring.

Comment:
If you are not interested in writing essays and you have things like Lab Reports and other priorities like sports or classes in a major unrelated to this class, do not take Valerio's class. You are expected to go to presentations outside of class on your own time and the final assignment is a 10 page research essay. Hard to get help from.

Fantastic Professor! Sure, it can be a snooze when she sits down and lectures about the readings and doesn't open the class for discussion but other than that, as long as you do the short readings and write the 2 page long papers, you'll pass with flying honors. Also, super flexible!

Prof. Valerio is a wonderful professor. For this class, there is a lot of reading and it's fast paced, but if you keep up with it, you'll do fine.

Overall, a pretty chill professor. Pretty easy on the amount of essays. About one 1-2 page paper per week on average. Goes over the literary analysis in class. However, sometimes overrides student's comments with her own, and lectures can get kinda boring (especially if you didn't like English classes to start with)

Sometimes her lectures can get a little rambling but overall a very knowledgeable professor. She's pretty laid back so she's super approachable. Sometimes the readings and assignments felt a little too easy and the fact that a canceled class wasn't uncommon is worth noting but overall I enjoyed the course and I would take a class with her again.

Lucilia is a wonderful teacher! Class discussions go well and you rarely lose interest in the class. The final paper instead of a final was also great! Less studying to do

I took two writing classes with Prof. Valerio at Cambridge College and she was the best writing teachers I have ever had! She is very clear and I have learned a lot from her. I used to hate writing, but her classes changed that. We practice a lot of writing, but it is completely worth it! I highly recommend her!

She's a very knowledgeable professor, but she's prone to spend the entire class rambling on, which gets boring quite quickly. Overall, though, she's decent at her job.

I would never take the class again. The texts she chose were interesting, and there is no doubt that she is intelligent. But come now. I want to learn something about English. Something to improve my own writing. NOTHING. This class is great for slackers. The fact she missed twice as many classes as me attests that any apathy you feel is mutual.

She is hilarious! Totally worth taking the course just for her "sass". Also very helpful if you ever have any questions.

Valerio is great - she's sassy and has an awesome sense of humor. I really enjoyed the books she selected and I also enjoyed participating in discussion on the books. Don't believe the other reviews that say she only grades in B range - if you do your work and come to class and participate, you'll do fine. I managed an A, after all.

the readings assigned were very good, however the class was painfully boring. in smaller classes where you could have a nice group discussion, she'll sit and lecture about the books. beware: you wont get anything higher/lower than B range!!

Valerio is awesome. Class is sometimes boring but she's flexible if you want to do something a little different with an assignment. For a perspective class, just do the work and this could very well be an easy A. Key word though...do the work!

Probably the most boring class I took last semester. She gives plenty of her own insight but does not allow room for any of the students' insight; when she does ask for it, there tends to be silent awkwardness because she is unable to start a discussion. Does not teach critical thinking or analysis, which she expects.

She's very nice, very helpful but not very flexible. Not an easy grader on essays. Know the material she assigns; there are occassional pop quizzes, but still pretty easy. I'd recommend her for Lit and Comp, even though I'm making her course out to be tough.
