Had Canuto for both 201 & 202. Challenging class, as tests are quite difficult for a 2nd year course. Lots of assignments and class is based on participation and textbook exercises (assigned daily). Great prof and is very accommodating. Picks on people during class so be sure to have the homework done. Course requires more than average effort.

Luisa is my favorite professor. She is very approachable and wants the best for each of her students. Although the class may be difficult at times, she is always there to help you and answer any questions you may have. She made the class enjoyable, and made me want to pursue Italian in the future.

My favourite instructor at UBC. So helpful and very kind, she made class enjoyable. Very clear for beginning Italian learners. She is so respectful and always in a good mood and she will go out of her way to accommodate you if anything comes up throughout the term.

Amazing professor. As long as you have an interest in learning Italian, she will make it so easy for you. She is genuinely helpful and understands her students extremely well. She assigns quite a bit of homework, but her classes make up for it as they are very engaging and fun. I would highly recommend her if you are taking Italian.

Luisa is a great prof interested in finding the best way to help students with language acquisition. She is intelligent, witty and kind, but she will make you work very hard - lots of homework, lots of in-class work. But you always have choice. She is the best language prof I've had in university, and I've had 3. If you're taking Italian, take her.

Easily the best prof at ubc!! She really cares about students' progress and makes classes very interesting. She definitely hands out many assignments, etc., but htey are very helpful. More work than other italian profs but you will learn so much, and be surprised by the improvement in your grade!! Highly reccomended!!

She is very energetic and dynamic which I really liked at first, but then realized that the course is not very well structured. We spent too much time speaking to each other (in Italian of course) but I found it kinda unhelpful. My interest in Italian has gone down a lot because she is kinda discouraging and group work is terrible.

Luisa is hands down the best professor I have ever had. She is genuinely interested in teaching italian, and wants her students to do well. Her class is less a lecture, and more of a fun discussion..in italian of course! Luisa is patient and sincere, and teaches fabulously. Clear and concise. TAKE HER CLASS!!!

literally, you know she's coming down the hall when you hear music. you'll know what I mean if you take her class. Absolutely the best teacher I've had in my life. she interviews you in her office to test your oral comprehension, but it's done when it's convenient for you and 1 on 1 so you don't embarass yourself too badly. Great prof.

Took her Ital 100 class in 03-04, and it was easily the best class I've ever taken at UBC. She is helpful, insightful, and makes you interact in Italian to really learn the language. She wrote me an amazing cover letter which got me a job teaching English in Italy for the summer. Take her courses!

Everyone else has already said it, but Luisa Canuto is like an angel sent from heaven for the express purpose of teaching YOU italian. She coudn't possible be better, although the course is tough and the workload heavy, but that's what it takes to learn a language.
