Luisa has a background in policy, so she often teaches policy-oriented courses such as this one. She's open to student feedback and makes an effort to ensure that the readings make sense. We had several short readings each week and a choice between service learning, a "food stamp challenge," a book review or a research paper for the final project.

Comment:

She is a nice prof who wants students to do well. Big focus on writing-- if you hate essays or aren't a strong writer be prepared to work very hard; if writing is your thing, you'll nail good grades quite easily. Speak up in class discussion, she loves that. You're allowed "do-overs" if you need them on essays. Getting an A- easy if you write well.

there is a lot of reading required but Luisa is a good teacher, she will be so grateful if you participate in class discussions and I think its a big contributor to your final grade. intersting class, interesting material, class was worth it.

I never have disliked a professor at USM like I dislike Luisa! She is the president of the "Poor Pitiful Me" Club of S. ME. If you are a whiner or like to play the victim card, this is the professor for you. If you are affluent or timely in your work, she will overly critique and snip at you. I find Luisa prejudice against anyone not a victim.

She was a great professor and we had a great time in her class. I learned so much from her class. She may seem hard but she is only there to help she help me improve my writing from a C- to an A- a have never met any one that could do that. She is fantastic and I look forward to taking another class with her.

She was very helpful in aiding students with research papers, which was a huge chunk of the grade. she sent numerous links. she did assign A LOT of readings but as long as you skim them you will be prepared. class discussions were always interesting and you learns a lot about America and its positives and negatives.

I liked her. She's really nice, not a bad teacher what so ever. She gives a ton of readings and some of them aren't worth reading, though. If you don't like the topic of social inequalities don't take this class with her, it's what you focus on for the semester. Keep up to date on portfolios, too, or you'll be screwed at the end.No tests,easypaper

I absolutely loved this class! Luiza is a great professor, she makes the topics fun and interesting for the students. I found her to be a fair grader, and very receptive if you were having problems with the course. I enjoyed the discussions and the material covered in this course. I would highly recommend it.

This professor changed the syllabus several times during the class, resulting in confusion of what was expected. She has unusually high expectations for a low level class. This class was very different how other students secribed the class with other professors. Teaches unrelated material.

Everytime you write an essay for her she tells you to pretend you're a scuba diver and dig down deeper ...I swear I get great grades for papers in ENG and she just is evil. Plus I think she likes to hear herself talk no matter what you say she has to add

Yes, Luisa is now in a new position and making more money. She teaches about income inequality and is a poverty crusader. But she is an excellent teacher and an example for all female students here at USM. I really appreciated her class.

Can you name a prof that teaches about economic justice when she gets 90,000 a year and makes her less forunate students drop her class if they can't afford books...Ironic? NO- Just pathetic. Complete hypocrite.
