Dr. Houlihan was by far my favorite prof at STU. If you're interested in furthering your career in psychology make sure this class is on your transcript! There's the academic benefit. If you want to take an AWESOME course with a great prof, there's another benefit.

Comment:

Found the classes very hard to follow, he very quickly went through slides (often without explanation). He did say what he expected us to know for the midterm but the lack of clarity of his explanations made it feel like you were almost teaching it all to yourself. That being said, knows his stuff, very approachable!

Had him for Adv. BioPsych, Adv. Stats, and Adv. Research Methods. I cannot emphasize how great of a professor Dr. Houlihan is. By far the most helpful educator I've ever met, and his enthusiasm is up there too. Not to mention the amount of feedback he gives you - it's clear he puts lots of time and effort into it. He makes you a better student.

Great professor, really cares about his students' progress. His weekly quizzes make sure readings are done, very helpful in the long run. Very passionate and knowledgeable about psychology. Very approachable and will spend extra time helping you if needed. Marks fairly, tests are reasonable! Put in work and you do good in the class!

Dr. Houlihan is an excellent professor who puts great effort forth to his students. I had him for Advanced Research Methods and I have never worked so hard in a class, but I have never gained so much either. I may have disliked him during the process but the ends justify the means and in the ends I gained much knowledge and friends. A+ professor.

I've had him for Bio Psych and Drugs and behaviour. He is a great prof. Knows so much! Marking is great on tests, group presentations and papers. Interesting classes. You MUST stay on top of your work, and keep up with the readings.

Very unclear and ambiguous about instructions for paper. Hard to talk to, prefers if you email instead. BUT very knowledgable, notes up on WebCT for you to print. Do read ahead before going to class. Fair marker on tests, but not on assignments. Material is very interesting but I didn't like him very much as a person.

Overall, I thought he was a good prof; he was excellent at communicating, and I found his lectures very engaging. The only thing I didn't like were his weekly quizzes, and also his midterms/exams. They were quite hard I found, and brought my mark down severely! Other than that, he is a great prof and very approachable!

Michael Houlihan is an awesome prof! He is passionate about his work and definitely cares about his students and their progress! I love taking his courses and only wish that there were more to take! Houlihan's a fair marker and there are UsUaLLy no surprises on his exams :P I definitely recommend his classes if you aren't scared of a bit of work!
