Comment:
Professor VL is an indifferent teacher, largely immune to the needs of her students, who grades and critiques capriciously (or lazily). Perhaps more than any other professor I've had, she seems to look through (rather than at) her students.

One of the best professors I have ever had. Extremely well read and knowledgeable in all areas of writing: from editing to publishing and writing a book proposal.

I really enjoyed this class. I learned a lot about other writers and about my own writing as well. It was great to leave the class with three chapters of my own and a proposal to send it to a publisher. If you're into CNF, this is a great class to take.

Lynne's class was a lot of fun, but the homework wasn't. Only take long CNF if you can come up with a good idea for a whole book and follow it through for two chapters and a proposal. She does really care about her students, learns everyone's name right away, but she doesn't write many comments on your paper - you have to ask for feedback.

I found that for a subject I wasn't sure on before, she really steered me clear of it. Partially because she didn't seem to know how to teach first years, but also because she didn't present the topic in a way to interest me.

Lynns class is interesting but very hard. Lynn is also extremely disorganised. Feedback is usually delivered too late to do anything about it before handing in the next assignment.

Professional in a personal sense, but woefully lacking in constructive professional feedback. I'd say she's got a chip on her shoulder, but that's unfair as I don't know her whole story .. Seems to choose styles of writing she approves of, and lambaste those she doesn't. Biased. Petty.

She is super-helpful and lots of fun. Her classes are interesting, though at times a little unfocused. She is the type of teacher that if you are interested in learning she will give you all the help you need - you just cant be afraid to ask.

While i liked Van Luven as a person, this forms and tech course was the worst planned and most boring class in my university career. The readings were all bizarre canadiana. Nothing cutting edge. My advice: skip this class and take her workshop
