Do not under ANY circumstances take her first year seminar! It requires a huge amount of research and prep which means nothing anyways as she grades only on participation (there is no rubric) & purely her subjective view of you that day. Nothing she says is clear, the only was you will be able to make it through the class is if you have a good TA.

Total joke of a teacher. She tries to appeal to her students by putting on a fake smile. She was my first year seminar professor and adviser and seemed helpful and courteous until she gave me a poor grade on a paper because of her unclear instructions. Also refused to write me a recommendation because I got a B in the class. Don't waste your time.

Treats the class like a business communication class instead of a programming class. Gave a handful of short lessons on Photoshop and Flash (extra useless once HTML 5 rolls out) and the rest were about sales pitches to businesses. Not very knowledgeable; cannot answer simple questions about flow of execution. Would not take again.

so unclear about what she expects from you. very unorganized, does not make clear due dates, so you're suddenly surprised to learn you have a whole book due in a week. takes FOREVER to grade anything back and her feedback is pointless and vague - makes you feel like you put in all this work for nothing

Those who said that Dr. S is horrible are either bad students or people who are too dumb to understand computer science. Ignore them. Dr. S is not only a wonderful person but also a wonderful teacher. You will benefit a lot if you talk to her outside of classes and be friend with her. She really knows more than you think she does.

I have no idea what everybody else is taking about. Her lectures are very clear. Write down everything she writes on the board during class and you will do very well in this class. She doesn't use a book so you don't really have to study at all. She does take off a lot of points for every little detail though so look through quiz before submitting

She has a title of a DR. but to be honest I don't see it. Goes on and on about useless info and can't clearly illustrate objectives or points in class, even though she thinks of herself to be a genius. The class seems easy if you have done editing prior to the class, but don't plan on the class being easy if this is your first go. She's not good

She rambles about irrelevant info constantly, unorganized, and doesn't give a detailed syllabus. Quizzes and programs are announced a week before they are due. Assignments and quizzes are much harder than what she lectures us on. She tries to be helpful and is a nice person but a terrible teacher. Since Fall 2012 the class is 25% Python, 75% Java.

She is very unorganized, and doesn't even give out a syllabus, so quizzes are announced like four days before it is taken, which doesn't allow students to plan ahead. Assignments and quizzes are much harder than what she lectures us on, moreover her lectures aren't helpful at all. I will not suggest this prof for any classes she teaches.

She isn't horrible. She's pretty easy, if you know what your doing. It's mostly Python, which is pretty easy. Go to TA sessions so "unnecessary points" won't be taken off on programs. If you understand it, it's easy, and she makes it understandable, usually. She doesn't always use the right syntax

I find her to be unorganized, and the lessons, which consist of 25-40 minute lectures ambiguous at best. I feel she rushes through everything and is not interested in the class. Worst of all, she expects everyone to "get it," immediately, and if they don't, well then, they SHOULD. I've never had such problems w/a professor.

She should stick to computer science because her attempt to teach a seminar was actually pathetic.She isn't very smart and she has the most OBNOXIOUS laugh you'll ever hear. Overall, I think she means well, she just doesn't pull it off at all. I'm just glad this class is a joke to begin with, otherwise I'de be in serious trouble.
