Comment:
Professor Kilgour is a valuable prof who has a lot of knowledge to provide if you're willing to learn and put the effort in. Her knowledge corpus extends to not just Milton Studies, but Antiquity, Medieval, other Early Modern, 18th century, and modern works. She does, however, mark hard, and she seems to prefer a specific sentence structure style.

She is the Muse of McGill English department. Her class is simply incredible and is a must for all aspiring english students. To y'all who will have Engl202, please attend all the classes and learn to appreciate Chaucer, Spenser, and above all, Milton. You will be fine if you read all readings, and come to office hour if you have any query!

Professor Kilgour was by far the most engaging and thoughtful professor I've had in English thus far. She not only gives detailed and interesting lectures but got to know students on a first name basis (in a class of over 100). When I asked a question about one of the authors we were studying she took the time to research it for me. Unbelievable.

Prof. Kilgour is one of best professors you would meet in college. She is very enthusiastic to help if you talk to her outside of class. Her introductory class covers lots of reading, but you better take advantage of this opportunity if you are an Engl major! She has a beautiful and poetic soul with which most literature lovers would resonate.

Really knowledgeable teacher. She talks fast but repeats herself and you need to take really good notes. The class requires a lot of effort but is very interesting and enjoyable! I'd take her class again

Brilliant professor and wonderful lecturer, Kilgour is passionate about her topic, which makes her classes captivating. Her course is dense, implying a constant and sometimes overwhelming note taking. She gives difficult exams and is a hard marker, however, she is totally worth taking if you wish to enlarge your understanding of literature.

I really enjoyed the intro to English Lit with her! She is super energetic and so clever, and enjoys what she does. Readings are tough, and she covers A LOT of material, I would write up to 10 pages (handwritten). As long as you attend every class and do your readings, you'll be fine. She is not asking for undoable things in the exam.

Extremely unclear during lectures. She talks non-stop for the whole hour of the class, and it is very hard to follow/take notes.

Gosh this class was harder than I thought it would be, but she's brilliant and her lectures are very very very good - if a bit too packed with material. Studying for things is kind of a pain because of how much there is to review but if you're really gunning for the A you'll be damned if you don't know the material by the final haha

Maggie Kilgour is an amazing professor who cares about her students. She speaks quickly and enthusiastically - be prepared to take a lot of notes! She is passionate and incredibly intelligent. Keep in mind, you won't get an easy-A and attendance is a must, but if you can deal with that, you'll have a lovely experience in her classes.

Comment:
I took Renaissance lit because it sounded interesting and in the beginning it really was. Maggie is very passionate about the subject but imo she expects way too much at the undergrad level. I went to her office hours a few times and that still didn't help. Because I'm doing a BEd she said and I quote "I don't know how to help you". Not cool.

I really love Maggie. I was shocked by the low marks from the first assignment, but if you go see her you can learn what to do better. She's brilliant and sweet. Not arrogant at all. Loves the material, and you will too if you let her rub off on you. Do it.

Prof. Kilgour is an attentive professor, which is remarkable for a prof teaching undergrads. Her lectures were always engaging, not necessarily entertaining, but that's not what we go to university for. I learned a lot from her Renaissance lit class, and would love to take a course from her again.

One of my favorite profs. She was a hard grader, but she was always fair. She cares a lot about the subject and if you put in the work you'll get a lot out of the class. If you're interested in English Lit, I highly recommend her course on Milton.

She just sucks. Full of herself for no reason at all. She thinks she is a much better prof than she is. Deceptive...You think she will be good at first but then you realize that she is not all that smart; she has just worked hard to create the illusion of intelligence. FRAUD!

With Bristol retired, Kilgour is undoubtedly the best professor the dept has! She is charismatic, entertaining and brilliant all at the same time--not to mention one of the kindest souls you will have the pleasure of meeting in your academic career. A tough marker, but her comments are fair, relevant and will help improve your writing enormously!!!

This woman is my goddess! She is a phenomenal prof who is so well-versed in her field, it's almost frightening. Kilgour is brilliant, knows it, and is not the least bit conceited! Very clear lectures, though overflowing with information. Plus, who else would invite the whole class to her home to celebrate Milton's birthday? Wonderful AND eccentric!
