Professor MacDonald is a straight-forward lecturer. She sets clear expectations from the very beginning of her course that are not difficult to meet if you go to her classes regularly and actively engage in the material. She is very helpful to talk to one on one and her passion for her field of study is inspirational.

She is quite harsh when she introduced herself and talked about her expectation. however, she is not a tough marker at all. she marked the online reflection and response quite easily

i cannot believe how much readings she assigns. we probably read on average 100-150 pages a week and she is not the nicest person to be around and she literally brain washed her students into thinking that she is a good and nice teacher, but when u come up to her with a problem she is far from it

terrible class. terrible teacher. she was so boring that i sometimes left mid-way because i was falling asleep, she basically reads off slides, gets no one involved in her lectures and assigns 100-200 pgs of reading per week... dont take the class!

Lectures were pretty much useless and definitely not necessary to get a good mark as she posts the exam outlines. But she expects you to read way too much after the mid term. Practically half a book and an article a week.

A bit of a tough marker, but she talks with conviction and her lectures are interesting. She does have a tendency to over explain assignments but there's really no harm in that.

Absolutely useless course, one that I was forced to take even though I had taken a very similar course previously at another school. Best bet with her is to AVOID going to her absolute garbage lectures and just read the articles and watch the films on your own through YouTube. Just teach yourself as this prof is beyond useless.

4430 class was extremely interesting. She is a great lecturer, you can tell she is very passionate about what she teaches. This class is difficult though in that she requires A LOT. Lots of assignments/weekly reports and responses online. But I definitely recommend taking this class!

TAKE THIS COURSE! You won't regret it. I was never a fan of medical anthropology so I had low expectations coming into the class but after the first few lectures it quickly became one of my favorites. The readings are actually really interesting so doing the work actually isn't that much of a drag. Just be sure to go to class, a lot is based on lec

This prof is great. She really loves the subject she is teaching. Her grading is fair and she gives enough time to complete assignments. She takes a bit of time to hand back assignments but other than that she is great. Make sure you show up to class because her lectures are very important.

This prof is amazing because she cares for her students and wants them to do well. She is always willing to give them time apart from her office hours and responds to emails very quickly. Her course is very insightful and her grading is fair. Everyone should take this course!

Helpful, although can be somewhat condescending. Her lectures are fairly disorganized and sketchy, however the material is understandable as it is not too difficult. I'm speaking about Health in Crisis.

While she is exceptionally clear on what she wants in her assignments in this class, she is also exceptionally picky. Also, the amount of work you have to do for the % of grade each assignment is worth is kind of a rip-off. 3-4 page proposal with critical review of sources AND an 8-10 page research paper for only 15% of the grade? Come on now.

At times Maggie was very picky and seemed rude since she liked things her particular way. You will be frustrated with her attitude at first but will get used to it. The material is not very hard, you just have to do the readings and follow along. Sit near the front.

I had Prof. MacDonald for for Public Anthro and Women, Culture and Society. By far the best professor I've had at York U. Contrary to what has been posted below, MacDonald is very approachable and willing to help. She is to the point, very down to earth, has clear expectations, presentes insightful material and is an inspiring woman. :)

loves to hear the sound of her own voice, very picky about what she expects on tests, if you don't give her what is expected you won't do well, also if she thinks your a weaker student than she is unhelpful, apt to moments of snobbery and very unhelpful

Very interesting material and her lectures are helpful for exams/assignments. The expectations for the assignments, however, were not very clear. She also isn't very approachable. I took a seminar course with her before and found, in this class, that it was better to have a TA rather than having to deal with her.

Great Prof. Very Organized, structured lect's. Clear & to the point. Doesn't move to a new topic until she knows everyone understands. Assignments: indicates exactly what she's looking for. Follow the instructions, do the work, attend class and read... be able to articulate yourself and you'll do well... Liked her so much that im now in 3230. :)

This prof is totally unapproachable. Her lectures are all over the place, she can barely stay on topic. She's probably putting herself to sleep, she displays no passion for anthropology - why is she teaching it? The worst prof I've had in the department. Good readings - the only good thing about the course. She needs organization & structure!
