Marc is a fantastic professor. He is indeed a choleric with anger management issues and intimidating presence, but at the same time an inspiring, guiding and insightful designer. I urge anybody to take a studio with him if given a chance. Eye-opening.

Which Marc is turning up today? The moody, petulant, arrogant one, or the insightful, inspiring, engaging one? Mr Hyde sucks Dr Jekyll almost made it worthwhile. Even with your work done good attendence and active involvement in studio, you can catch the fallout of his moods. However, he can open up a whole new realm of ideas in a 5 min desk crit.

Marc is very demanding, and forces you to learn about architecture in a way that can either be miserable or rewarding. if you want to make pretty renderings or have a social life, you are out of luck. He insists on teaching the fundamentals of space and material that some professors seem reluctant to.

PROS:Clear, teaches useful things like structure, light, tectonics, refers to interesting built projects, CONS:Moody, wont ever tell you when he'll show up, he won't find you (less ur really behind), you have to fight for his attention MISC:likes hand drawings, concept/completion/craft, not as abstract as other prof but will support abstract proj.

I had the advantage of taking Marc in both my first year and thesis year at Pratt. I can say without doubt that he is the hardest working professor I had there and his passion for his students and their work is unmatched (excpet for maybe Rhett Russo). 4 months of a lot of work he prepares you for the worst to come its like you're in design boot camp! In all seriousness he is very dedicated and somehow he draws your attention into submerging yourself into the architecture field, its inevitable. A bit of advice if you don't want to see him mad FINISH YOUR WORK! YOU'll DIE but you'll go to heaven!

The most hard-working and stressful 4 months you will ever have in your life, but I'd definately recommend taking the class. He is the best first year design instructor because of his high expectations. You cant lag behind with him, because he expects alot out of you and he'll give you nightmares if you dare to not give your all.

The guy lives and breath Architecture, so expect to do the same (I had to actually bleed to get results) or youre in the doghouse, reminds me of my sargent in the army, oh one more things, if you take thesis with him you'll have nightmares, but hey, he's one of the best I guess...

Angry and concern for your work is the biggest stimulation sometimes for a student to get to work, and he gives it to you. A true slave driver to his students, but you learn alot.
