Comment:

I've had her as a professor twice and both times I tried my hardest and only got a B in the class. She gives extra credit, but it is always very hard. She tried to fit way too much material into a 2 credit class that is usually an easy A. Take another sem because there are way easier professors for this course. I learned a lot but her theory hard.

Comment:

Hands down the most well-organized math professor I've had at KU. I knew exactly what I needed to do every week, knew what to study for each test, knew what I needed for the final. She was too theory heavy, but that's par for the course in the math department. If you're willing to put effort into looking at the book when you get lost, it's not bad.

Comment:

Possibly the worst professor I've ever had. She doesn't grade the homework which makes the test grading confusing, and she grades for the right answer only. Doesn't give enough time to finish quizzes and is horrible in lecture. Doesn't explain any concepts, just says them and moves on. Doesn't work with you on your grade or offer any further help.

I don't know if she grades the students work, but grading is an issue. If you get the correct answer; tough luck unless you practically spoonfed your steps. She teaches theorems yet no example proof; so you have to reread the book to find proof and understanding of the topic. Not worth losing GPA over to tough it out.

The coursework for this class is decently heavy and the tests are also bulky but if you work hard and study well enough (I don't like math too but you have to) you'll be fine. There's also a decent amount of homework. You only need attendance for clicker points but you basically learn most things from the lab ( if you have a good TA)

Going to class is important for clicker points. She is very nice and obviously knows her stuff but is not a very good teacher. I had to teach myself out of the book a lot. Very boring.

Dr. Bayer should stay out of classrooms. She lectures endlessly about single concepts, but only works problems without explaining why concepts work the way they do. She doesn't care about her students at all, and assumes you already know the material she is supposed to be teaching. If you go to her office hours, be prepared to be despised.

High level math classes are all about proof writing, and Professor Bayer's proof writing is the absolute clearest I've ever seen. She has a standard writing convention that makes taking notes easy. One of the best math professors I've taken a class with.

She's a very nice person, which makes it that much more embarrassing when you fail. Her hard lectures still don't prepare you for the tough homework, which is strictly graded. I've never learned as much as I did in this class- sadly, it was all life lessons, not coding theory. I had to drop. Great advisor- difficult teacher. Take her at risk.

She is very knowledgeable about what she teaches. I came into the class, having no calc experience. I aced Math 101 and this class is hard! She doesnt explain very well. Used to teaching 500 level classes so she EXPECTS you to know this stuff. I have a low C in the class after 2 tests.I would advise taking a TA unless your really good self teaching

I used to like math before taking math 540... she goes through the material at 1000mph, and worst of all, none of the material is in the book... also, homework easily takes up an entire day,.. we have to figure out problems never seen before, which takes A LOT of time... if you want to take this class, be ready to study, study STUDY!!!

I'm not much of a math person, so this class has been challenging for me. However, in my opinion and numerous other students in my class, her lectures are very unclear. She works a lot of example problems, but goes extremely fast and does not explain the steps unless asked explicitly. Hard class, but doable with a lot of studying.
