I hated this class and didn't like her very much either. She assigns a lot of homework every class for material we haven't learned yet and doesn't give you credit for doing it. She is very mean and demeaning and makes you think you're stupid if you don't know the answer. Can't wait to get out of this class she made me hate such a beautiful language

I couldn't wait for this class to be over. She assigns work from the book every night but never checks it. Basically if you get the answer wrong in class, you didn't do your homework. She makes you participate. Not very helpful if you don't understand. Goes straight from the textbook. Uses checks, plus, and minuses for grades.

McDiarmid assigns A LOT of work, but is very nice. She's decently strict, and demands attendance. However, she is flexible to your needs and just wants you to learn.

If I hadn't taken French since 7th grade, her class would probably have been impossible, but if you connect with your classmates, help each other, be involved in class discussions, and ask her for help outside of class, it should be somewhat manageable. She makes you write papers* but she lets you do revisions to improve your grade.Would take again

A pretty good teacher. She only lectures straight from the book which is really annoying. This often makes going to class feel unnecessary and frustrating. Overall though I'd recommend taking her.

Way too mean and not understanding enough to be teaching a modern language course. She would be great for French culture and customs, but is impatient and actually pretty rude with those trying to learn. I have one of the best grades in the class with an A-, and even I find it hard to learn and impossible to get feedback from her.

I hated this lady. She made me hate French. If you don't know the answer she calls you out on it, even after telling her you don't know. I dropped the class because I would have had to continue taking her.... Now I'm stuck with Spanish. I don't like her at all but if your a teacher's pet you can get away with anything.

shes a really nice lady, but she does choose favorites and if youre not one, youre screwed. just be really nice to her and participate--a lot. she takes participation extremely seriously. overall, she's great for the intro courses, but beyond that, the subject info isnt that interesting.

Such a hard teacher. Does make herself available, but very hard to approach. She takes participation way too seriously. If she likes you, you get away with a lot of stuff. If she doesn't like you, and you're called on, you're screwed. She hated me. I got a B+ in French 102, now I'll be lucky for a C. Very difficult, rude, and harsh.

She assigns alot of busy work and never checks it...made us watch a movie on the black population of Martinique that was totally pointless and like 2 hours long along with six page worksheet..wayyyy to much work for those who dont want a major in the field...assigns work and never checks it only adding to the stress she puts on you

Boring class but still easy. A lot of homework but most of it isn't mandatory, she tells you when you need to turn it in. Overall, it's pretty boring, there is a LITTLE interaction with other students when it comes to speaking French with them. It's a solid class, but certainly not anything special or exciting. A typical boring French class.

She has no idea of personal space and is always in your face. She gets really excited about teaching and it makes the class kind of annoying. There are ridiculous amounts of busy work, which makes it seem pointless to take. Try to avoid taking her because Recker and Cardin are better. She is nice, but not the best teacher.

Terrible teacher. I got a B in the class even though i aced more tests than i got B's, she just decided what she wants to give and does it. I have Bierbaum-Cardin in FREN 201 and I have done that same amount of work (hardly any) and have a high A. Take Bierbaum and get on her good side.

I thought Mme McDiarmid was a very nice lady. I enjoyed speaking with her, but I hated her class. I did well in her class, I passed w/ a high B, but I was always studying French. She was very unhelpful at office hrs.
