Dr. Mchugh is a nice and caring person. Exams are very difficult and expect 3-5 pages of homework per night it will take you about 4 hours a night to do them. As long as you have clear communication and show you are putting effort forth in the class you will pass he is not looking to fail you he is on your side.

I have had him 3 times. at first you will be overwhelmed because he is unorganized, but you will quickly get over it. Study hard for the first test and 100% meet with your preceptor he usually has good ones. after the first test everything is pretty easy and try not to get overwhelmed by him and understand he means well and wants you to succeed

Can't teach, avoid at all costs. Kind of rude to students, final project is really difficult, a joke and a huge pain. Gives 3 exams and gives no time to learn the material for the last one. Uses really technical terms that no one understands. At this point, I just hope I end with a B

Rambles about absolutely nothing and loses the entire class's focus. have never heard one good recommendation about this man. He clearly favors male students and creates an unfair learning environment. He doesn't care about his student's success and is unaccommodating. Avoid taking him at all costs, but if you're a CSCD major that prob isn't doable

He's a very funny guy! He pushes tests back if he notices the class isn't getting the material and he really wants everyone to do well. He uses the preceptors a lot, but he is very knowledgeable.

Many people dislike Dr. McHugh due to his scatterbrained nature and hard to follow lectures. I had him for both intro and pho/pho, and the more time he has to lecture, the less frantic he becomes. He is genuinely a very caring professor and truly wants to share his passion for languages. He is knowledgeable maybe to the extreme, but a great person.

This guy clearly knows what he's talking about, but doesn't know how to teach at all. He would ramble on and on while the whole class was lost, and one time when someone did ask a question, he got really cocky with her. He was unorganized and gave way too much homework. I have to take him again for my major, and I'm dreading it.

If you typically get good grades and always study/work hard, Dr. Mchugh's class will not be a problem for you. The lectures are beyond boring & he often teaches material that is way harder than what is on the exams. Using his study guides & going to review sessions helped a tremendously. Final group project is a pain, but he graded fairly

The main problem I have with Professor McHugh is that he does not simplify things down to an introductory level well enough; he's almost too smart and often goes on tangents that are related to the topic but not helpful. I also don't like the fact that hw is given before it's taught in class. Three exams and one final group project.

Alright, so some people really hate on Dr. McHugh but he is one of the most caring professors I've ever had. Yes, the lectures can be dense but honestly I think a lot of the reviewers on here expect professors to dumb things down to the point of feeding them answers. You should be prepared to work in this class but know that McHugh wants to help.

Professor Mchugh is very passionate about what he teaches. He is willing to answer any questions you have about the material although he is a bit unorganized. He throws a lot of information at you after the first test but just focus on the homework because that's what'll be on the test. Would definitely take another class of his.

He throws so much information that it is overwhelming but you don't need to know all that info for the tests. There are 2 tests and one non-cumulative final. The tests are manageable as long as you study and get help if your having trouble with any of the concepts. He is a nice guy and is willing to help you if you need it. No textbook is required

Very smart guy not always easy to follow so do the homework ask questions and you'll be fine. Study guides and blackboard materials are great, lectures can get boring so just ask questions and pay attention when he goes over the homework its really helpful. Not an easy professor but nothing like most of the reviews on here.

Definitely the worst professor I've ever had at Temple. He is ridiculously unorganized, babbles about things that are not relevant, is rude to students who ask questions, takes off tons of points on tests for extremely minor errors, and truly does not care whether or not his students do well or not. If you value your GPA, DO NOT TAKE!

He's nice enough, knowledgeable on the course material. I knew nothing about Linguistics going into the class and he left me more confused than when I started. He was overwhelming with information and always late to post power points for that days discussion. I was lost from the very beginning and was never able to catch up. I withdrew, no regrets!

McHugh is honestly the worst teacher I've had in all four years of college. He is a disorganized mess and seems as though he loves to watch his students fail. Does not help if your having trouble whatsoever, and thinks he's better and smarter than everyone while putting his students down. As a teacher myself, HE is not one. Do not take this class!

Professor McHugh is a nice guy, but overall his class is terrible. I dreaded going to phopho because I was always bored beyond belief. He rambles about topics that are relevant, but not important. He's extremely disorganized so don't expect to get ahead on your work. Make sure you do the homework and study for the tests and you'll be okay.

Hands down, worst teacher in my college career. Only had two tests and no final, because he ran out of time to teach the material. Failed more than half of my class and blamed us for having poor grades. Would cancel class randomly and assign homework on sections that we hadn't learned yet. AVOID HIS CLASS! Had to retake in the summer.
