Comment:

As a professor, M. Stiner was very rude and nasty. She did not allow students to write papers from their own perspective. She only liked a certain kind of writing that presented her opinions. Worse professor I ever had. I earned A's in all my other higher-level college writing courses but struggled with her class. Very subjective grader.

She really doesn't care about you and is blunt and rude. She piles on homework and cares exclusively about the survival of the low quality honors program. She requires a lot of writing and reading and will take up a whole day just for her own classes. I don't know anyone who enjoys her whatsoever.

Comment:

Margaret Stiner means well. However, she isn't open to differing opinions and does not exhibit awareness of how current freshmen operate. I came to her for advising appointments and instead of discussing my future at BW, she lectured me on getting enough sleep and told me I was in the wrong major. She cares about her students, but doesn't know how.

Prof Stiner knows her stuff really well. She was a very difficult grader and expected a lot from the class. She can smell unpreparedness from a mile away. I was kinda scared showing up for class everyday because she had very strong opinions. As long as you backed up your differing opinions with hard facts and good reasoning, she would respect it.

I still can't thank her enough for her guidance when I was a first-year student. I felt completely lost in my major, but she provided me with both the support and honesty I needed to make the most suitable decision for myself.

She was so helpful! I loved going to her office so that she could help me with my papers, as nervous as it made me. And she was happy to help. She made me feel a lot more confident as well, and clearly cares for the students who care themselves.

She is one of the sweetest ladies that I've ever met, however as a professor she is not clear with her assignments and a tough grade when it comes to papers. I learned to hate politics and nothing about English or writing in this class.

Very good professor. She would like to see all her students leave BW as mature, responsible adults who go on to lead responsible lives. Encourages students to not become part of the pack, but to become leaders. THIS is what LAS is for. Very approachable if you need assistance.

Don't expect to learn anything about english in this class. Be ready to hear her opinions and only that. The course is all politics and war and ridiculous assignments that teach you nothing about english or becoming a better writer. You have to read the New York Times a lot to understand anything she talks about in lectures. Lets you rewrite papers

If anything, this class made me hate politics. She is a smart lady, and basically knows everything..so bs-ing on papers is rough. She likes papers done a certain way, but lets you re-do them, which is nice. She can come off rather cold though. I am just glad this course is out of my life forever

I hated the class, our personalities clashed and to no fault of my own. I also hated seeing freshman who were working so hard in other classes miss some of ENG 131 class and end up getting an F. She also preached a feminist opinon, and anything a student said that was different from here opinon she would look down on them the rest of the semister

She was very helpful. I would write papers and receive an NGR-NO grade received. I understand this but when I would go to her for help she told me to go to the writing lab. I thought this was an english class- why can't she tell me what i'm doing wrong so I do not make the same mistakes? basically- she was unhelpful and pushed her liberal stance.

She is an amazing teacher. Smart, funny, focused and really quite beautiful. In spite of my massive crush on her, I still managed to learn a great deal. Without question the best instructor of my entire academic career.

I was frustrated by the content of the class. I did not feel that professor Stiner helped me to be a better writer, which I was assumed was part of the object of the class. It felt more like a history class, rather than an English class. I think her intentions are for the best, but perhaps not as effective as she might have wished.
