Comment:
Margot is obviously very intelligent and well-intentioned, however she is an incredibly poor instructor. Her lectures may as well have been delivered in an ancient Hebrew dialect, because no one could understand her most of the time (she also often confused herself with her bizarre metaphors). If you are assigned her, be prepared to self-learn.

-Unnecessarily confusing. If you think you understood the material going into the lecture, you may be disappointed. -Professor tends to answer questions in a long a convoluted fashion

Comment:
If you got assigned Young, RIP. Lectures were completely useless, simple things were rendered extremely convoluted through her extensive use of inane metaphors. Just read the textbook/CANs, don't bother with class. Crawled through material in first half, sped through it second half. Unorganized. Switch sections if you actually care about Con Law.

This class did not help me learn. The material, which seemed clearer upon mine own reading, was snuffed by Ms. Young through a veritable cornucopia of inscrutable metaphors and similes that are more befitting of an undergraduate course on T.S Eliot being taught in Alice's Wonderland by the Mad Hatter than in a law school located in the real world.

lecturing is all over the place and you really have no idea what she wants. If you don't read the book you won't do well because she doesn't cover any of the important nuances in the book clearly. Make sure you study everything by yourself.

Not clear what she wanted on the exam. Very confusing. She would always run overtime with her lectures and make us stay late. Tries to use metaphors in an attempt to make things more clear, while in reality they make things more confusing. That said, she was helpful with me during office hours, and went over practice exams with me.

I had Margot for an undergrad class, and I found her a very easy market and extremely approachable. She tends to go off on tangents and is speaks in a wordy, intelligent manner which often makes it hard to follow along. I can see how as a law professor, she would be difficult - but I loved my undergrad course with her and would recommend her!

Margot Young speaks fast, so it is sometimes hard to keep up in the notes. But she makes cases very clear. It almost isn't required to read the cases, because she lays out what you need to know. She is also super helpful outside of class, and will go over your your CANS or your practice exams with you.

Comment:
A very nice person. Huge vocabulary, and she speaks quickly, so if you're not well read, you might get lost. Students complain about this, but I'd say it's more their fault. You don't have to do the reading because she straight-up summarizes the cases. The class was a bit boring and a bit uneven, quality-wise.

She is a femenist and doesn't hide it. Depeneding on your own leanings this will either frustrate you, or be refreshing. She is not very clear. It takes a fair bit of work to get around the concepts. She over-complicates certain topics that need not be. Outside of class she's very nice and very helpful.

Not the best lecturer but she really cares about her students and wants them to succeed...which isn't something that can be said about most UBC law profs. If you are getting confused by her lectures go speak to her in her office hours and she is always willing to explain the material until you truly understand it.

Humour comes across as mean. Told review class that her 3-hour exams take 9+ hours to answer fully (she's proud of it). Doesn't *teach* law, she rambles *about* it. Speeds through important points with as much (or little) emphasis on them as everything else. Lecutres on Charter rights make white males seem evil. Maybe a better seminar teacher??????

One of the worst profs I've ever had. I agree with the other comments about her being over-the-top feminist, condescending and rediculously unclear. She is one of the worst lecturers I have ever encountered. She should stay out of the classroom, and the school would be a better place.

Welfare would be 100 grand a year if it was up to her. Have a lil' respect 4 the taxpayer! Where does she think money for her (overpayed) salary comes from? UBC should stop hiring these intellectual academic farts that never did real work in their life. Pinko brainwashers, all of them. (And I did really well in her class)

Teaches from a strong feminist perspective. Very abstract and a bit unfocused in her lectures. Assumes that everyone has read all of the cases thoroughly.

This prof should stick to her strengths: research and writing. As a teacher, she can be pedantic, patronizing, even insulting, and intolerant of contrary views. But worst of all she can be extremely vague, overusing sociological terminology and piling point onto point, thereby losing the point. Come down from the Ivory Tower once in awhile!
