Great Prof. Was incredibly helpful with my papers. Expects you to keep up on the reading, lots of small assignment . but really supportive even tho expects you to work. Readings on disability sometimes a downer but interesting.

She's interested only in what she has to say. Don't bother trying to participate, she won't even give you a chance. She talks like she needs to be burped every 2 minutes. She's lazy, often not remembering what texts were assigned, assigning them late. Her secondary readings often had nothing to do with the primary text. Doesn't respond to e-mails.

I liked this class. Farland is very helpful with anything you'll need. If you write a really bad essay she will ask you to fix it instead of giving you a terrible grade.

A surprising amount of reading for a Composition course. Unfortunately she spends a lot of time covering material that is not applicable to assignments outside of class. She tries to lighten up the workload around midterms and finals, but that doesn't mean assignments disappear all together-- be wary!

She likes to talk- always goes over time- but she does care about students in her own way. She was so so nice to me when i was sick and helpful if i ever had a question about anything. I really dont think I've learned much, but as Comp classes go, I think I couldve done much worse. She warms up in the end and doesnt make you work over holidays

I don't understand the negative comments about Farland's voice. I found her very animated and enthusiastic. She really helped me with my writing, and cares a lot about students. She wrote me numerous letters of recommendation and still helps me out, long after my graduation. She is very generous with students and wants to help them. I would take he

Though I received an A in the course, I dreaded every class. Dr. Farland likes to point out that she used to teach at Johns Hopkins and has won numerous essay awards. She talks about obvious things for the entire 75 minutes. Class is simply boring and not very engaging. Sidenote: If you don't like Walt Whitman, avoid this class like the plague.

She is a good teacher, but her voice sounds like a constant pre-yawn. She will talk over you when you are making a point, and won't even apologize for interrupting you. You don't have to do the reading to get an A, as long as you can bang out a good thesis. Overall, she's pretty good.

Great professor and friend! She truly cares about her students and it shows. Not an easy A at all, lots of papers and hardly any A's. But you learn a ton, and she's a great person. Since you have to take the class, take it with Farland. I still keep in touch with her today.

Dr. Farland is a very nice woman who looks like Geena Davis. At times, she can be difficult with grading -- and classes sometimes get really boring with dead, awkward silences. She does like to hear herself talk, and tends to talk over you if you are making a point. I liked her, but I feel she'll only give very very few students A's.

Farland in my opinion was a ****... she likes to hear the sound of her own voice. If she thinks you like her class she'll like you more. It isn't really hard... but if you have any passion for english she has the potential to crush it. I think she is a nice woman, who shouldn't be a teacher!

Has a tendency to speak over students and is very very boring. Sometimes after making a comment she will give you a blank stare. Books were okay, most of them were read in High School. Always wears dark clothing. Not overly difficult but not an easy A necessarily. I didn't feel as though we did enough close reading.

she doesn't listen to anything any of the students say. she loves to hear the sound of her own voice, and considering how often she says "uh" and "um", it doesn't make for a very entertaining class. The class is easy enough, but its made me hate english.

I can't understand the 'painfully boring' comment. She chose readings that relate to students own experience. There are many papers but the topics are interesting and the grading isn't hard.

The class itself is painfully boring and she doesn't listen to your questions or opinions just believes what she wants. But if you do the many papers her grading gets easier. Go to her office hours and she'll raise your grade.

You have to write many papers both informal and informal. At first the grading seems very hard but it gets better. Pr. Farland really wants to help students and takes lots of extra time to help. Go to her office hours, it will raise your grade.

Took her for required english class. Expect to write for almost every class. It's not hard though, just stay on top of your work. She makes you a crisp writer - she makes you lose the fancy prententious words and makes you focus on writing your thoughts clearly and effectively. Highly recommended!
