Comment:

Prof. Ripol's class was doable. She was very good at explaining. I recommend going to the live lectures as you learn more from them. Exams weren't that hard but they were quite tricky. I didn't rely on Study Edge and did well on my exams. As long as you study and do past exams, you'll be fine!

Comment:

There are many ways to learn the subject material: interactive lectures, online videos, and attending live lectures. The actual material was not difficult, but her exams were overly complicated and tricky. Some of the questions seemed more like her opinion than actual statistics.

The class is doable, although Ripol makes the class overly complicated imo. Lectures are OK, but you need to really STUDY the old exams and practice problems to do well on tests. I liked Study Edge bc they had video solutions to past exams, so it helps to watch those while you're studying.

Comment:

There are typically three quizzes and one lab each week. Her exams were fair but also purposely tricky. I used the online interactive lessons, never watched her live lectures, bought Smokin' Notes, and did fine. Take advantage of her practice exams, extra quizzes/labs, and extra credit. It really adds up and makes a difference.

In the beginning of the semester I'd actually go to her lectures, but don't even waste your time. Got Study Edge and stopped watching her lectures. First exam made me realize that that you need to all the practice exams, bc her tests are super tricky. Daily quizzes and labs help your grade a little, so take them seriously. Extra credit helps too.

What I like most about her class is that it has a structure and flexibility. The kind of question you are going to get is expected because you have many practice exams from previous years. Also, you can make your own schedule because of pre-recorded lectures and assignments that are open since the first day of class.

If you are a quick learner or are motivated (or both!) you should do well in this class. She moves quickly but there's nothing too demanding or challenging. She is good about answering students questions and seems to be very caring. Do practice tests to study for the exams! They are the only way to know what tricky problems she could use on exams.

This is one of the best professors I have ever had, she was super easy to meet with during office hours and is the only reason I passed this class this semester. If you show her you are a dedicated student, she is more than willing to work with you.

It can't be stressed enough; DO the practice exams (if you don't have time for all do the three most recent ones) and extra problems. Her tests are weird; you have to get used to the way she asks you questions. The only way to get comfortable with her exams is by taking the ptests and taking notes on what you missed and WHY your answer was wrong.

Overall, this class isnt hard to pass, but it is hard to get an A. She always puts 3-5 questions that are really tricky, to the point two answers are correct and she just picks whichever she wants. Study Edge really helped, and whenver you study take ALL past exams. This really helps you notice how her trick questions work. Lab was stupid.

Comment:

Statistics with Professor Ripol is not as bad as it is made out to be. The online interactive lessons are informative, and the labs and quizzes complement the material well while also providing a cushion to your grade. The exams did always contain a few tricky questions that were not based very much on the material, but study and you will be fine.

Gives the option of only watching online lectures which I learned just a well through and took less time. Weekly quizzes but 3 attempts, for exams best way is study her old tests to get a feel for her trick questions. Ending with a B, only complaint is her adding trick questions. You don't have to have a background in stats to do well, just study

Overall, the class is very doable if you just keep up and put in effort. The labs are a joke, and you get multiple attempts on the quizzes. Your whole grade is pretty much just the exams, which are very hard to get an A on because she will ask about four or five super specific questions that are designed for you to get wrong. Don't get the textbook

She isn't the most helpful, and the exams are pretty tricky. I did all the practice problems, kept up with lectures and quizzes, and still did mediocre at best. I don't think the questions were worded the best, some were very specific and it was very possible to get them wrong even if you were positive about your work.

The class is doable if you put in the effort. The exams can be kind of hard, but she uploads a TON of practice problems and old exams. Do all of those, keep up with the lectures and module quizzes, and you should be able to pass. There is "suggested" hw but I never did it, just watched the lectures and studied the old exams.

Ripol is a very sweet lady but not the best teacher. I struggled a lot in her class. Earning a "B" is definitely attainable but you have to work for it. For the reference, the average on our last exam was a 62% (each exam is worth 25% so a bad grade on one is detrimental to your GPA).

Exams are tricky but not impossible- If you do all of her practice exams (she gives you access to like six or seven of her past exams) you will be fine! I did all of her practice exams for all of the exams and got literally exactly what I got on the practice ones on the real exams. She's not as bad as everyone says.. but actually watch the lectures

As a lecturer she is fine, but the tests are very conceptual and easy to mess up if you don't read carefully. Test averages are in the low 70s but she won't curve them because she says the labs and the quizzes are "the curve." Would probably recommend somebody else.

Hands down the worst class I could have taken. Your entire grade depends on the six hours you spend taking three tests in the entire semester. The weekly quizzes and labs are worth next to nothing compared to the tests. The tests are very specific and you never know what she is looking for. I would HIGHLY recommend not taking this class.

Honestly, wait to take stats. She makes the class unnecessarily hard. Theres 3 exams that make up 75% of your grade so if you get a C on one its basically impossible to get an A-. The tests are super tricky and when you do the past exams you can see how she makes mistakes on them! 3 quizzes a week and then like 5 in November.
