The course material itself is dry unless you're super passionate about music. The lectures are also boring, and there's iClickers for attendance. Tbh if you're good at cramming, you could prolly cram the few days before exams and still do well. There's also essays, but those are pretty subjective and not too bad. Overall easy class

She is very knowledgable about the topic. Lectures are alright, not very interesting if you do not wish to study music. Uses Iclickers for attendance. Assignments are very straightforward and sections are interesting. Requires some work, but it is not hard to get an A!

She's an easy prof. After our first assignment she said that we could all get A's. She frequently delays assignments and sometimes even cancels them. However, she seemed a little flaky and didn't seem very into her subject. Either way you have to take this class to be a Music major and it was fun. The readings are only necessary for the final.

Prof. Smart is brilliant. Her lectures can be somewhat of drag, but the music makes up for that. very engaging and open to questions, opinions. very generous in her grading if she sees genuine interest and effort. very helpful in OHs: she looked over my paper page by page, made notes, and discussed ideas. She's super! a bob dylan and bjork fan!

At times a dull lecturer, but still picked interesting topics for discussion. I really liked the music selection--got to love almost all of them. I learned a lot, although at times she was a little disorganized, and many times our assignments would get canceled. Very friendly and accommodating, allowed me to take my final early.

Interesting stuff, I learned a lot and had fun! 2 papers, 2 midterms, one comprehensive final. You really gotta work to get the A. Go to class and pay attention, read up on the terms and learn 'em - they'll be on the tests! You don't have to listen to the pieces much, though - as long as you know what's going in each one, you'll be fine.

Amy Smart is easy, but very unclear: To obtain the "A" one must discuss in class, attend class (two big portions of the grade) - be ready to write bullsh** papers; doesn't matter as long as they're filled with abstract ideas you're good...just talk in class, it will definitely boost your GPA. I personally hated her class because she is very unclear

If you have musical background, then you should be fine. However, if you don't, you may struggle in analyzing the music. Very little work but found midterms and final hard. Grading depends on GSI that you get. Thought I did well but ended up with an A-.

She's an awesome teacher and this class is amazingly easy. Midterm essay prompts given ahead of time. GSI's very chill and easy graders. I have no musical background and i looove this class, i even started to like the classical music that she was teaching. This class is a pleasure, both GPA wise and contentwise. Take it~!!
