AI with Roch was surprisingly tough. I expected an elective/survey course and got a full-blown AI class. Assignments are intimidating but very doable once you figure out what's going on. No study guides provided for exams but the questions generally aren't very hard. She's great in office hours but not very responsive by email. Very nice lady.

Helpful professor. She takes her time to really help you with any question you might have regarding your presentation. She isn't the only one grading your presentation, your fellow students do it as well. I enjoyed her class, I would recommend it.

Incoherent content, far away from anything you'd expect in advanced OS. Encourages too much questioning, which actually destroys the flow of class. But she's a good orator and appears to be knowledgeable.

Comment:

Marie Roch is an expert in the subject of speech and speaker recognition. If you have an interest in this subject, this is an excelent course. Skills and concepts developed in this course are also relevant to statistical genomics, data mining, and statistics. Marie Roch is both friendly and helpful. Also, the course workload is very manageable.

Interesting class and Dr. Roch is a good teacher. Be prepared for difficult C/C++ programs with NO class discussions or in-class help. She will help in office hours and explains the information pretty well. A LOT of information but she seems fair.

Better pair up with a good programmer that knows C/C++. A big plus is that you can use a 1 page cheat sheet on the exams and the exams are not comprehensive. The teacher is a great teacher and explains the material very well, however there is just so much information in this class plus the programs are hard which makes the course seem hard also.

Very challenging. Make sure you pair up with a good programming partner. If you don't know C/C++ or if you aren't a fast learner, don't even try to take this course. The assignments are hard but they really help you to learn. SDSU needs more profs like this.

Very very good teacher. Lectures are very clear making it easy to understand the concepts. Programming assignments are challenging, but really help in understanding the concepts covered in class. She's helpful when you need help. Take this class with her if you really want to learn something.

One of best SDSU CS professors. She is very clear and helpful. Unfortunately, the programs were easy, but I attribute that to the fact that the average SDSU CS student is lazy and stupid.

Very hard! Practice tests do NOT reflect actual tests. Better off studying old assignments than practice tests. Lots of tests. Lots of programs. Tests are worth 2/3 of your grade, but if you don't get a 70% or better on programs, automatic F.
