Ok, she probably has some cool ideas about music analysis, but I feel like I don't really learn much from her. The class was not organised, AT ALL! And she can be super condescending and mean about things, e.g. when you ask questions! She does not convey her points effectively in teaching. Oh, by the way, don't go to the bathroom during class!

Overall, her lectures are organized, and she is very helpful during office hours. Sure, she is rather strict, but it's not preschool. Personally, I did not find her mean. As long as you do the homework, show up to class, and take notes, you should be fine. She also really knows her music.

Terrible with interacting with students. Rude, not helpful, and can be just down right mean. If you try to ask a question she will humiliate you and make you feel stupid. If you try to answer a question, EVEN IF YOU ARE RIGHT, she makes rude comments and will argue with you. Didn't give answers to homework after returned, can't study for exams.

Just doesn't connect with students and doesn't understand the way in which they need to learn. Probably better for graduate students who already understand the fundamentals. Comes across as VERY condescending and is easily irritated by students who give the wrong answer to her questions when she calls on you in class.

I have to take this class for my major and I ended up dropping because the professor was just no help whatsoever. I basically had to wait until discussion to understand what was happening in the class because Prof. Guck was so unclear. Also, she is terrifying. Come to class prepared to get called on and frustrate her with your lack of knowledge.

I thought Prof. Guck was very helpful in making me see music analysis in a new way. I enjoyed the work we did, and felt that the class made me grow. However, I think she is an overall better teacher for graduate students than undergrads, who may need a bit more hand-holding than she provides.

What a harpy. The half-turkey variety of harpy. M Guck has some severe emotional impairments (i.e. she can't regulate her own strong, negative emotions) and very little in the way of insight or information. Stay away if you value your education.

At the graduate level, Guck is a brilliant teacher and mentor. Her 'take' on musical analysis is unique in that it is based on musical perception. She encourages students to start from their initial emotional and intuitive reactions and start to unpact the music theory from there. A truely inspiring theorist!!!

Professor Guck is okay. She's weird but she is a really nice lady. She can definitely make some things seem a lot more confusing than they are. A lot of this class was review for me, so it didn't mess me up too bad. It's not a hard class if you have had any musical experience before.
