Prof. Carroll was very encouraging. He made it clear that effort would equal an A, and that is true. Lectures aren't very interesting, and there could be more discussion, but I recommend this course.

Really liked this class, the lectures were pretty interesting and, if you understand them, Carroll's jokes are super funny. Your grading depends on which TA you get, they all grade differently and they all have different assignments within the discussion. Fill out the study guide, study it, and write out the essays beforehand and you'll be fine.

Professor Caroll is extremely boring and his lectures tend to carry on. Not too hard of a class if you go to class and read the assigned readings. TA's grade hard.

Only two tests(mid-term and final) and he gives you a complete study guide for both so it is VERY easy to get an A. discussion teachers vary. Did not use the textbook once, and lecture is VERY boring. 1 book report. Despite boredom of the class it is VERY easy. He is a nice guy, just monotoned.

This class is interesting. There is 1 test (which he gives you a study guide for), 1 book review (which can be pulled off without reading), and an exam which is the same format as the test. The TA's do all the grading, and I had a great TA, which helped, but no one should get below a B in this class if you try.

Carroll does a really good job of clarifying important aspects of history to his students. As someone who isn't even remotely interested in history, I had no trouble passing this class. Lectures offer both sides to old world issues which makes it interesting. Plus the TA's are really attractive.

I normally like the subject material, but the way he presented it was very dry and his powerpoints were just pictures. He means well, but you must go to class and try not to fall asleep if you want to score well on any of the 3 assignments. He tends to wander in lecture and I was often unclear on what notes I should take. Definitely read the book.

I adored this class. It was very conversational and casual and he made me feel like an equal and that my opinions were valued. So kind and gentle, very forgiving and laidback. Eager to help.

I feel like I need to keep a dictionary nearby when listening to his lectures. I recommend going to class and taking as many notes as possible. He doesn't put much on power points so you'll have to really listen. UTILIZE your discussion classes, they help so much! He does give out study guides before the exams which is helpful

I really liked Dr. Carroll, but he isn't overly easy. His lectures are pretty dry sometimes, and he's old school in the way that he lectures with very little use of powerpoint. It really depends on your TA as to how you do. Consists of a midterm (essay), a book review, section quizzes, and a final (essay). So basically, not many points offered.

FANTASTIC professor for upper level history courses. Easy to get an A so long as you participate, prepare for the tests, and don't phone the class in. He will cold call if people aren't prepared. Also don't fall asleep. He will call you out and it's painful to watch.

I went to lecture once and easily got an A. He gives out study guides with the (very simple) essay questions a week before the test, so all you have to do is look up the answers in the book.

His tests are impossible, he's rude and arrogant. In the tests you have 50 minutes to write one 750 word essay and three more 75 word essay which even if you do know the material it is very hard.

I'm not a history person and I enjoyed this class. His lectures don't include any visuals but if you can bother yourself to show up and pay attention his lectures are pretty engaging. There are two essay tests and one book review. He gives you the possible test questions a week before the exam. Overall, a good prof and a good intro course

Lots of people don't like his lecturing style, as it tends to meander between points a little and doesn't always stick to the outlines he e-mails out. I liked it though, even understood some of the jokes he cracked during lectures. Overall, if you aren't a history buff, this class won't exactly show you the light, but you can do far, far worse.

For our class the only grades were a midterm, book review, and a final. Both midterm and final were 3 short identifications and 1 essay. For a study guide he would give you 3 possible essays and about 15 identifications and on the test he whould give you 2 essays you write one and 6 identifications you write 3. it was EASY and i hate essays

He's a very intelligent man and his lectures, though sometimes dry, are very informative. The grade you get depends on you and your TA, but Dr. Carroll is very approachable if you have any questions. Whatever you do, do not leave his class in the middle of the lecture. He'll chew you out in front of everyone. Other than that he's a pretty cool guy.

Super easy teacher, though he isn't really the most entertaining unless you have a dry sense of humor. He narrates his notes so just pretend you're listening to an audio book. I had Volkman as my TA and he was a fair grader. The tests are essay based but he tells you what you need to know prior. Show up to class, read, and you'll be fine.
