Dr. Chapman grades on participation and essays. The midterm exam is essay format, one group presentation, a final essay (8-10pgs), and a final exam (also essay format.) This class requires personal connects to the readings and emotional reactions to the readings. Participate, read, and trust the class and you will be fine.

TAKE THIS MAN'S CLASS! The best professor I've had at Fordham so far. Fordham is so lucky to have him as a professor. His passion for the subject is contagious and I looked forward to this class every single day. Lots of readings but they're all very interesting.

TAKE!! One of the the kindest/friendliest profs at Fordham! Explains the material very clearly. Super accessible outside of class. Very clear expectations for papers/exams. Participation is critical but he treats everyone with such respect. ALL opinions welcome. Nonjudgemental, easygoing. He really loves teaching and it shows. Would take again 100%

Very passionate in his work, and truly appreciates effort in the classroom. Only downside is how disorganized he was, and how he basically forgot about certain assignments, which was beneficial to the students but left us on edge. But would take again!

Absolutely inspirational professor, one of the best I've had at Fordham. Chapman is incredibly passionate about the material. It would be hard to come out of his class without being moved. There is definitely a lot of reading & he expects a lot from his students, but if you put in the effort you will receive his respect & benefit from the class.

To be honest, Dr. Chapman is probably the best professor I've taken so far at Fordham, arguably the best professor I've taken, ever. Only one test was given in the semester, mostly because he actually weighs more heavily on whether or not you are able to fully and internally grasp the subject matter, rather than your test taking abilities.

Incredibly disappointing! This is supposed to be a history class but this professor insists on making a theological one. Names, dates, mesmerize, regurgitate, no critical thinking required. I was hoping for a deep philosophical and political dialogue and I'm sorry I even wasted my time in this class.

Dr. Chapman is a compassionate, sweet, and caring professor. His words flow like ideas from Martin King. His knowledge of African American history and religion is world class. I have never heard someone able to captivate a class like Chapman. He'll make you love learning. Take him

Dr. Chapman is one of the BEST professors at Fordham. He knows Martin & Malcolm like old friends and he will make you love them as well. Definitely do the readings but if you miss a few you will be fine. Midterm is short response, 2 papers, final is an essay. Come to class and participate and he will reward you well. 10/10!

Dr. Chapman is really sweet and enthusiastic. The papers aren't hard, but you MUST do the readings (all of them) to do well. With Chapman, the longer your papers are the more he'll like him. He's a really nice guy and I learned a lot, though mostly from the reading and discussion, not necessarily what he taught us.

Dr. Chapman is an extremely kind and genuine professor. So knowledgeable and passionate- he really knows Martin/Malcolm so well. The class was incredibly interesting-- you'll want to do the reading. Just put thought and effort into the papers and participate in class and youre golden. The midterm was a bit hard, but it didnt count for too much.

Professor Chapman is a really cool guy. His class is a lot of reading and he often comes off as preaching because he is a pastor. A very passionate professor, his grading is based mainly on empathy expressed in the papers. Overall: Take him.

Best professor at Fordham. The amount of things i learned about black history, slavery, prisons, etc was astronomical. Extremely fair grader, but he pushes you to work. Hes a huge sweetheart, often goes on tangets about personal issues. VERY clear, class includes guest speakers, and helpful dialogue. heavy reading load, but its fun and informative

Such an educated, enthusiastic person, but the classes themselves were useless. I would have benefited alot more had he lectured more instead of having students present bits and pieces of the readng each class. I could have learned just as much by reading the texts by myself. Readings were the most fascinating part of this course, not class itself.
