Do not take him. Yes Dodd uses foul language to create discord among LDS women he gets a charge from making people uncomfortable. Don't sit up front he spits while lecturing. He's passionate about himself. Other PHD English teachers are less eccentric.

This teacher is awful. He is highly inappropriate. He gives his own interpretation to everything you will read as sexual in nature or related to death. He hates LDS people and hates people with conservative values. I feel I learned nothing from this class. Tests were very very hard. you have to know the books inside and out to get a decent grade

I went into this class thinking it should be a cakewalk. I can write A level papers without even trying. I was so wrong. Dodd's class is hands down the BEST class I've ever taken at college. I learned more in this class than any I've ever taken and truly grew as a person and student. Dodd is not rude or overbearing. He is honest and really cares.

This class was a lot harder than I expected it to be. I do find that his class was entertaining because he is like that one friend that everyone has who turns everything into sexual context. A bit pervy, but has really gotten me out of my comfort zone with my writing.

Very tough instructor! Unlike any other i've had at ISU. Can be very harsh. Tough grader. Expects you to actually talk and participate in class or grade will largely be docked. Definitely not an easy A, or even easy B. I struggled greatly to get a C from him. Found him alot more helpful outside of class than by actually attending his class.

Dr. Dodd is a performer, so if you speak up in class he will most likely criticize you to make a point. Outside of class however, he is a nice guy. Very hard work, much harder than I expected a 102 class to be, but I became a much better writer after this class. Overall, Dr. Dodd is a great teacher but extremely hard to approach.

He is a tough grader. You have to work for your grade. He definitely knows his stuff but he is very arrogant about it. If you have a question, it is best to ask outside of class ass his answer will be more direct and less condescending. Be prepared to take a lot of negative comments. You will learn a lot and work very hard.

Avoid this professor! He is abusive and arrogant. He gets a thrill out of getting in students' faces and talking down to them. I dropped his course and took it from someone else (Brandon Hall) who was waaaayyy better.

Very hard class, but I learned so much! Everyone told me that I would never get a good grade in his class and that I would waste my life writing papers for him. But I ended up liking him a lot. His class is tolerable, and if you pay attention you will learn a lot. Yes he uses adult language, but we're in college. We're adults.I would recommend him.

Worst teacher I ever had. I agree with another commentor that he is abusive. During one class a girl left in tears. He is very arrogant (especially for having a phd and only ever publishing small articles). He only ever had negative comments to make. Avoid this guy.
