Comment:
DISP philosophy is a joke, but I think she did a very good good at teaching this stupid course. Most people are taught the things she was teaching in that course when they were 2 or 3 years old, but that was a course, not the prof. She seemed very open to people questioning her opinions, but her TA's sucked, were inconsistant and terrible markers!!

Not the best, but not as bad as I was expecting. I was terrified that she would push her liberal, feminist philosophy down my throat. Didn't happen. She was usually pretty fair when listeing to views with which she disagreed. I wouldn't take another one of her courses, but if you are contemplating DISP, don't be scared off by her.

As good as it can get, teaching a class on why cheating and lying is bad for furthering science. A bit biased against using the textbook. Applies her opinions most of the time.

It's great to see a prof who understands real life issues. Although I am in a masters in engineering, can say her class was great. These types of ethical issues need to be learned in all displines, not only by students, but should be practiced by profs as well. There is also a need for corporations to understand these issues.

really enjoyed her class, she deserves all the awards she gets, including the prestigious killam award. She knows her subject and stands firm on her views which is what makes her a great philospher, people like her should get the nobel prize.

I find many of the other remarks about Dr Sherwin ignorant. They would be offensive if they weren't so ludacris. Sherwin is a brilliant and informed philosopher. She takes a feminist perspective and does not try to hide the fact, but is very open to other views and encourages debate among her students. Interesting and controversial subject matte

Susan Sherwin is a world-renowned feminist scholar and an incredible teacher. Her specialty is feminist philosophy, so of course that's where you'll learn the most from her. Do you expect a logician to teach you aesthetics? Try shelving your personal prejudices against feminism and listen to what she has to say. You might even learn something.

Says things without having any evidence or statistics to back it up. Has no understanding of scientific research or the reasonings on why their done. Says things that aren't true about certain scientific ideas, and if she disagrees with some research findings then it is considered bad research. terrible terrible teacher. Avoid her if possible.

Prof was narrowminded and constantly forced feminist agenda down our throats. Marking was very lopsided, prof seemed indifferent to classes concerns. Used very dated examples and fears with regards to modern scientific issues (eg biotech fears of the 80's).

She accused me of plagiarism because my sources were old. Her marking was completely biased & she used her lectures as a way of pushing her own narrow-minded views instead of fairly presenting all sides of some very debatable issues. Be sure to question what she says before you accept it as truth.

Susan has done brilliant work in her field, and brings the experience of actually working as an ethicist to her classes, making it obvious to the student that the work we are learning about really matters. She is kind and genuinely interested in both the material and the students.
