Comment:
Haller is a great professor. He's spent a great deal of time doing his own research so that he can provide us with an accurate history of crime. He brings material which he's collected from a variety of sources, including inmates that he's interviewed. He is a WEALTH of information. Anyone who doesn't appreciate that doesn't deserve to be here.

Only grades a midterm, paper, and final exam. He will not give a review for the midterm, but one for the final. He is very boring and I could never find myself paying attention in class. However, he is very knowledgeable and encourages class discussion. The text book is cheap but not used often.

ive taken three classes with haller - and i must admit that he is a little slower then he was the first time i had him in spring of 04 but he is still great. has a wealth of knowledge - took US history 1865-preset, history of crime and dev of mod city....fair on grades, great dry sense of humor - is about 81 years old - he lived the history.

Comment:
This guy is an amazing SOURCE because he pioneered the field. BUT he's intolerant of anyone who thinks differently about what could explain history, and he will punish your grade if you disagree. But wait, even if you agree with him you still may not get an A because he is so senile (born in 1919) that he forgets the argument of your essay!

This class puts you to sleep faster than Nyquil. He doesn't take attendence and half the people sleep through class. There is no book, but tons of long articles, with serveral written by him. His lectures are horrible, half he time he forgets his notes and tries to wing it, but fails miserably. He also feels compelled to teach to the last minute.

Oh good God. This is not what I needed at 8:40 am. Had to withdraw because he literally was putting me to sleep. Seems like a nice guy, but his teaching style is way too dry. Makes Ben Stein look wild, okay? It's a shame because the course material is actually relatively interesting, but I could not get through his lectures. :(

Haller is one ethereal cat. Imagine Steve Buscemi in his 70s. Tends to ramble, but has a very dry sense of humor. Easy-going and an absolute authority on the history of crime in the USA.
