Mark Hamin loves to drone on and on about codes and ordinances.. the material is not particulary interesting and is hard to remember all that stuff you wont even need.

Mark Hamin is not an ideal lecturer. However, this class is City Planning 574-The work load is not too heavy for this level course. Yes there are quizzes every single class, yes I had to study 15 hours for the midterm, and yes you have to read 20 pages of a textbook TWICE A WEEK. Only real issue I have is that he doesn't answer emails or use moodle

We started the class by discussing the question, what would be involved in buying coffee for 70 people? It was a very low-information, high school level question, and this defined what was to come. I bought the books for $120, but didn't open them.

Little big man( insecure and blows himself up to be what he is not -- a regional planner) Should leave the job for real planners. Boring speaker, he drones on and on. Enthusiastic, but maybe he should take the lead from real planners and researches.

Great professor who really cares about what he's teaching. Although his explanation for assignments may be a little loose at times he is completely understanding of confusion and allows any help he can offer. There is two homework assignments a weeks as well as readings and a final project but if you attend class and apply any effort it's great!

Mark shows an incredible interest and depth of knowledge in the subject matter and encourages student to explore the bounds of the material as it meets their imagination. It was a pleasure to attend every class of his I had and will miss his guidance as a student at UMass

Way too much reading, at least 20 pages for each class which you have to do for the in class quizzes that also count for attendance. The slides and lectures don't help at all for passing the tests. He's a good guy but not a good teacher.

BEST TEACHER AT UMASS! He is extremely helpful and you learn a lot. You must read before class for the quizzes which aren't too bad. You must study and do the final project but as long as you do the work you will do fine. He really knows his stuff. I also took his sustainable cities class which was a little more boring.

Mark is a wonderful professor. You must engage yourself in whatever class you take with him and you will succeed. You need to meet him halfway with your interest and effort, and he will be sure to do the same. He is very knowledgeable, approachable and sweet. If you pay attention you will find that you learn A LOT in his classes. He's marvelous.

Yes, there is a LOT of reading for this class and there's quizzes based on the reading every class. There is wiggle room in the grading, so this is really only a problem if you don't do it. Lectures are a bit scattered and could be better, but Mark is a really great guy who will help you if you ask for it. Very knowledgeable and passionate!

A perfect example of a person not meant to teach at all. He simply can't get his thoughts across and as a result it is a torture to attend his lectures. Has no clue where he began and where the lecture has drifted. No control in keeping students focused and in tune to the subject matter being discussed. Not a bad person but a very pathetic teacher.

This class is torchure everyday you have to do the readings before class (up to 16 pgs) and quizes you on it the next day. INSANE, its impossible for me to memorize everything in that chapter enough to feel comfortable with takin the quiz 8am in the morning. Lectures don't help, I dont understand why this class is required for environmental design

He is a great professor, very approachable and loves you if you love learning. He wants to help you and going to meet him or to introduce yourself is a plus. You have to do the readings because there are quizzes every class, but he gives lots of extra credit. Very approachable, very nice.

this class meets 8am tues thurs, that itself should be a warning. Tests are hard, teaching style is unlikable. study guides, especially the final, dont follow whats on the test. one of my least favorite classes, makes me not want to obtain a degree in urban planning.

Great person but his teaching method is overwhelming. Possibly because we met at 8am. But Tests were hard, especially the final. The study guide provided didn't follow what was on the actual test.Kind of unfair!

mark is so much better at teaching sustainable cities than he is at teaching city planning, which was horrible. this class was actually interesting. he gave a lot of busy-work type assignments, but tons of student participation in class.

Mark is a great guy. Gotta read the book, gotta go to class - he gives quizzes. Not a bad class though, very interesting, hot TA too. Bummed that I didn't get an A - tests were tricky. Study!
