I took his American Heritage course. As was spoken before, he is very eloquent and intelligent. However, he is very condescending, rude and arrogant.

Dr. Kalthoff is an awesome prof. His Western Heritage lectures are amazing -- he clearly knows his stuff. He's pretty funny too. Kalthoff is a decently tough grader on papers, but extremely helpful if you go to office hours. I cannot stress it enough: GO TO OFFICE HOURS. He makes his expectations for exams very clear. Overall, GREAT professor.

Dr. Kalthoff is an absolutely amazing man who knows it. He is clear about what he expects and will not cut you much slack. That being said, he really does care about his students and I learned an incredible amount from his lectures. Don't take his class expecting a lot of discussion, but he is a fair grader.

Extremely inspirational lecturer, makes the themes of history interesting and fit together in engaging ways. While definitely not a discussion based class, you learn A LOT from his organized lectures. Slightly arrogant, but still open to questions in class and office hours. Very reasonable grader, but A won't be easy.

Dr. Kalthoff is a very good professor, and I wish I hadn't only been in the class to check a box off my core requirements. That said, my effort level wasn't particularly high, and I still did alright. Papers were easy (and American) as apple pie. Lectures were great, among the most interesting I've had at Hilllsdale.

Dr. Kalthoff is by far my favorite professor this semester. His lectures are clear, organized, and engaging --I can't believe how much I learn in a 50 min. class or how fast it goes. He makes himself available to students, although if you're looking for a checklist for an A he won't give it to you. I would highly recommend any of his classes.

Though an enlightening class, Dr. Kalthoff can be a little arrogant. He is brilliant; I heard he triple-majored at Hillsdale (math, biology, and history), but he definitely knows it. He does not encourage class discussion, tests are extremely difficult, and he grades papers pretty hard. I would recommend going in to talk with him about each paper.

Kalthoff make history relatable in the highest fashions, showing constantly how we can learn to rightly live through documents written hundred, even thousands of years ago. He does so with great charisma, enthusiasm, and humor. I feel incredibly blessed to be taught by him, and would recommend him a million times over.

Very bright. Loves to mess with you but if you have a bright happy personality, you can quickly establish yourself as someone he likes. Knows his stuff really well and is a really great person. I think a lot of students have a tough time getting past his intimidating appearance and demeanor as he knows he is brilliant and you are not.

Dr. K really knows this stuff. He presents the material in an interresting and fascinating way. Exams are nearly impossible though and he grades pretty hard on papers. Still, though, he's definately worth taking

The only class I had with Dr. K. was several years ago (I'm now an alum) and he team taught it with Dr. Whalen - at grad-school level, but it was def. worth it. Contrary to the posts I've seen here, I found him very kind - confident, not arrogant: there is a big difference. He even had the entire class over to his house at the end of the semester.

Talk to him during office hours if you have questions and prepare for his tests. Can be a bit arrogant in the classoom and in the halls of Hillsdale, but overall a decent guy.

An excellent teacher. Very analytical and incredibly knowledgeable. He can come across as somewhat arrogant but it seems well-warranted considering his expertise. He is also quite helpful if a student comes in to discuss things with him.

My first prof at hillsdale. As a history major, took him for 101 and avoided him like the plague for the next 3 and a half years. Huge ego, very suprised to learn he played hoops in college. Would think an athlete would be such a hard@$$. HATED GREEKS
