You read two books throughout the semester that are more difficult to read but somewhat interesting. You take weekly quizzes with two tries, if you score a 100% you get 3 bonus points added to that quiz grade. Quizzes can be tough, but you go over them in class before the second try. Participation matters, it is a third of your grade!!!

Mark is a great guy. He's passionate about his students, but I didn't learn from his teaching style. The quizzes were confusing; I failed almost every one (and I'm a straight A English major). His feedback is unhelpful. He is very encouraging and nice, but I didn't learn anything in this course. Never told us our grades. Online discussions.

Lencho is a great guy. Yeah sometimes he tends to drag on about a certain subject and his bi weekly quizzes tend to be difficult but you get two chances at them for a reason after the first attempt he goes over any questions students have in class and will answer any questions we have. Not a super easy course by any means but it's manageable

This was the WORST professor I have EVER had. He's a cool guy but an awful professor. Do not,I repeat do not take his class. you will read 1 book all semester and will write countless essays on the same stupid book. I almost fall asleep in every single class of his. you will have quizzes damn near everyday that the class average is about a 4/10.

Lencho's class is based off of quizzes that you get two chances at. Don't let that fool you because they're tough- take them in groups and use the book. Pay attention in lecture and try to understand and ask questions in class the day after you take the quiz. End of the semester project isn't hard at all, pretty easy grader on that too.

This is the most intellectual man I have ever met. He is an amazing professor! If I could take another class with him I would. You read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance for the class. Read it carefully and take the quizzes. His quizzes can be hard, but you can earn a second chance to take it and if you get a 10/10 u really earn 20/10

Professor Lencho is a nice guy, but that doesn't necessarily equate to being a great professor. He gives good feedback and encourages conversation about the books you read, but his lectures are not very interesting. It can be hard to stay focused in his class. If you choose to take him, make sure to keep up with reading and participate in class.

Mr. Lencho has good intentions, but his quizzes and assignments are based largely on his opinions. When I say this, I mean that a lot of his quiz questions are opinion based. That may seem great, but the problem comes with the fact that he puts multiple answers that are correct down as options and only has the one he agrees with most be correct.

Lencho is a nice guy, and can be understanding of you come up to him with questions. With that being said, I do believe that his grading system is quite difficult. His lectures are informative, but he expresses his knowledge in a very monotone manner which makes it difficult to keep focus. He is not the ideal man for the way I learn.

Participation is huge. The book he used for the entire semester was really boring and hard to understand. He has online quizzes every week and they are very hard, you need to read and understand everything in the chapter to pass them. He gives extra credit but you have to earn it.

If you do the work, really focus & work hard on the quizzes, and do the extra-credit every week - you'll be fine. Difficult quiz questions, but final exam is optional based on bi-weekly quiz scores.

Mark Lencho is a great professor and knows what he's talking about. The quizzes are online and very hard. They're very detail oriented so read closely. The final you can used your book/notes. Discussion posts required. Books are very dry and hard to get into unless you're into Metaphysics.

Way too hard for a Gen Ed class. Material will not help you at all down the road. Unless you are into Philosophy and Metaphysics, do not take this class.

While people have said this prof is awful, I would disagree. He does give a lot of work, but he's always there to help you! He always gives extra credit every week and multiple tries on tests! I learned so much from this one class. He truly cares about the students and wants to see all of us grow as scholars. It's tough love!

Mark Lencho is by far the worst professor I've ever had. For a 200 level English class, he graded like this was a master's course. Whenever I asked for help, he would give unclear answers, leaving me more confused. For each quiz we took, the class average would be a C or lower. Do no take this class if you don't have to!

Lencho's great. People are commenting that his clasess are hard, but they're very basic. If people think this is hard, linguistics isn't for them, but that doesn't mean Lencho's a bad teacher. His teaching is great, and he covers and tests the important material. Don't want to go to class? Quit college.

Intro to Language Study is an extremely difficult class. The tests are nearly impossible. That being said, Dr. Lencho is a very nice guy and offers a lot of extra credit. He doesn't want you to fail, he just has no concept of how difficult the material is.

Lencho is a good man, and is understanding if you are having problems in the class. He has an extra credit assignment in the class worth up to 25 extra credit points that can help boost your grade. That being said, he isn't the best teacher. He teaches at a level and speed of a grad. class and expects his students to keep up. Don't miss a class

The only way you have a chance in his class is if you show up all the time and study a ridiculously long time. His quizzes are designed to be ridiculously difficult and the only way you stand a chance is if you seek help outside of class.

Lencho is the worst professor I have ever had in 3 years at UWW. He quizzes on the most inconsequential material and does so in a nearly impossible manner. He expects everyone in the class to be linguistic experts on a near PhD scale, all while barely helping you comprehend the material. Good luck, his class is like walking into Little Big Horn.
