This class legitimately changed and helped shape the way i think. my mind was blown twice weekly, great class. great professor if you can get past how intimidating he is. also he will not remember your name in the long run if you're not one of his pets, but that's okay, he'll teach you just the same.

Looking back on my academic career, this was the only professor who insisted on "process notes" -- sometimes 15-20 pages of them! I *never* had any use for them then, nor do I now, and I've been better for it. He is entertaining, but also pompous. His methods are flawed and I always recommended against having him (for seminar clases, at least).

Mark is an incredible professor. Would definitely recommend him for anyone interested in a challenging, enriching sem class. He is engaged, thoughtful, creative and incredibly intelligent. Stick with him and you definitely won't regret it.

The best teacher I've ever had. Delightfully esoteric. Very engaged, curious, invested, excited. Will jump onto radiators. Occasionally burns things. If you are truly interested in learning, he will teach youâ€"in a Coleridgean sense, of course.

I was very glad to hear Mark is back at Simon's Rock and still teaching. He's a very smart guy with a variety of interests. He gives good criticism and knows what he's talking about. He also specializes in theater and Greek mythology. The only downside is that he always has a devoted following that makes it hard to get a word in edgewise sometimes.
