He is an amazing professor who will answer any question you have and hello you through the reacting to the past game. Be ready to come to every class possible, and do your reading.

Marks Whitters is my favorite teacher that I have ever had ever. He doesn't jive with every kind of student - if you love having a good connection and discussion based lecture, this approachable guy is for you. Is one of the most intelligent street and book wise people I have ever met. Doing research with him next year. Would take again and again.

The entire class relies on discussions and tests, but the grading criteria for discussions is unclear and his test questions have multiple correct answers. Says one thing in his lectures and then marks it wrong on the test. Terrible. Don't take it unless you already know about World History

Professor Whitters is a very intriguing and intelligent man. He clearly knows what he teaches and has a passion for it. For class, all you need to do is take good notes and do the test reviews for an easy A. He is a Catholic conservative and seems to be swayed here and there when it came to certain aspects about Islam, but I did not mind.

Mr. Whitters is my favorite professor. I am finishing up his Comparative Study of Religions class and he is very interesting to listen to. As a Jewish person, I was worried that he (a Catholic person) would not properly teach other religions including my own but he is very respectful! You do have to participate in/come to class to do well!

Ridiculous amount of work for a 101 class. Records himself lecturing (very poor quality audio) without any transcript of what is said, so prepare to waste hours watching these awful videos. Tests are very difficult and discussion prompts expect a lot out of you. Advice: RELAX, Professor: THIS IS ONLY HISTORY 101! Do not take!

I was unaware of the structure of the class and found out quickly that you were a character in a "game" now that's all fine and dandy but when it comes to turning in your papers you write on a position you took in the game the professor allows students to grade them. the final is ridiculous and he refuses to go over exam questions

I took Reacting to the Past, while unaware of the structure. This is not a lecture/test class. You take the role of a character for the duration of a game. You do not have to be great at speaking or acting, because he mainly considers your written speech and position paper. He thoroughly grades papers and gives elaborate feedback. He is nice.

If you're planning on taking HIST 109 online, don't. The software that is used is tedious and not worth much. It's very easy to do poorly on the online course-ware site.

Dr. Whitters is one of the most respectful and intelligent instructors at EMU. He has inspired me to respect religious diversity and understand those who believe differently than me. I would take him again if I could. Classroom discussions are important and exams are fair. He values your opinion! Share it! Get ready to learn a lot!

Dr. Whitters is very, kind, helpful and has a lot of fun with his students. His interactive history class is played out like a game of D&D. You are given a role in history and have to read, research and write speeches in your role. You have to come to class and participate! If you don't want to present, talk, and debate, this class isn't for you.

He teaches in a live action roleplaying style that is just great. If you have to take a history and you hate history this is the class for you. Now if you don't like speaking in front of others this class might be rough. As easy as it is you do have to be there and participate. It is a very in class and speaking orated class.

Professor Whitters is very clear on what is due and when. He usually gives ample time to complete these assignments. He lectures a lot but he makes it interesting and has many of value things to say. He is understanding and knows that things occur which may hinder school work and is accommodating.

Professor Whitters is a great instructor. This class had powerpoint lectures, a couple of assignments and multiple choice tests. I printed the powerpoint and then took notes as I was watching the powerpoint. The book helped with the assignments. He is extremely clear about the directions and requirements. I will take another class with him.

Great teacher. He gives extra credit on each test, so there isn't a reason why anyone can't get an A. Show up to class and you will be fine. You don't even need the books.

I feel like his expectations were a bit high for a 101 class, but it wasn't terrible. There was a TON of information he wanted you to know for the tests (long video lectures and textbook), so I just had all of the info in front of me while taking the test. If you are lazy and expect an easy A without doing any work, don't take this class.
