I really enjoyed having her as a prof. She really emphasizes genre theory and analysis. This is NOT an introductory course so don't take this first year. There is a fair amount of writing in this course but she's very helpful and takes the time to go over things with you in class. Defs recommend her as an instructor!!

This prof made me hate english. She is super nice but cannot teach :S. She doesn't know what she wants from students and makes no sense most of the time. Class was dreadful to be in and she picks on students sometimes not me but you can tell when she doesn't like someone. Its funny to watch but so wrong!

Good prof, makes dry material relatively interesting with good examples. Is VERY helpful if students don't understand the material.

She is really nice but she cannot teach! Everything about this class is horrible! I learned absolutely nothing and even if I did nothing from this class is transferable to school or real life! Worst class in the world!

The best advice I could ever give someone is don't take this class! She is really nice but if you are not an English enthusiast than this is not the class to take. Do not let the name deceive you, it should not be an introductory class!

The class is tough, especially if you're in first year. That being said, you do learn some new things; material can be a bit tedious at times. Sawatsky is fine though, she seems interested and will help you if need be.

One of the BEST Profs this school has! Challenges you while going above and beyond to help you succeed! She genuinly cares about each student, rare for an undergrad prof. She gives good marks but she inspires you to work for them. I worked harder in her class than I ever have before and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Very nice professor. Marks fairly easy and is easy-going. If you're looking for a course to "enhance" your writing skills, this is not the right course. I was deceived. However it's a pretty laid back class. Marlene is awesome!

She is not afraid to give high marks to everyone in the class. She is more worried about how much you learn and improve, the grade to her is secondary. She is the best essay marker I have ever had and is SOOO helpful - she really goes out of her way to help you. This class will make you a better writier

Sawatsky is the sweetest, kindest prof ever. Taught in seminar style, the course is helpful for improving both reading and writing academic work and is beneficial for both Arts and non-Arts students; there isn't an overwhelming amount of writing. I highly recommend taking this class with Marlene!

Comment:
Class itself is useless and extremely uninteresting. Sawatsky tries to make it "exciting" but the content is drastically unimportant to 99% of students taking the class so it's hard to really care. Experienced English students will have no problem getting good grades however. Lots of writing content
