Comment:

Professor Gauthier expects her students to participate in her classroom. She does not allow any technology out. She also expects students to do their significant amounts of reading before class and if you forget your material, she will embarrass you and call you out. I spent a lot of money on books for this class. Also, her tests are hard.

Marni is brilliant, passionate and wonderfully articulate. She asks students to be reciprocate, if unwilling, yeah, the class will be difficult, but if willing to learn, she'll change your life.

Comment:

Dr. Gauthier was the best professor I studied under at Cortland. She constantly challenged the class, offered valid criticism, and pushed us to improve ourselves on a daily basis. I thought about dropping the first class I took with her, but eventually stayed for four more-- she's one of the best that Cortland has to offer.

She is a very helpful teacher but her lectures are confusing. Her notes are disorganized like splatter paint and can be very rude and mildly ADHD. She holds classes WAY late so don't plan a class directly after this one. VERY hard tests.

Marni is very intelligent but tends to be rather scattered. She speaks very rapidly and it is not uncommon that she jumps from topic to topic while leaving her students in the dirt. She's also a very critical grader, yet has the hand writing of a 5 year old, making it impossible to tell what you did wrong.

Marni is exceptionally intelligent and although she speaks quickly using academically informed language, she inspires students to push themselves and produce great work I learned so much from her- subject matter as well as how inspirational. she pushes you to be your best, if you expect to sit in the back for an easy A, she is not the Prof. to take

She is a mixed bag. She makes you look up simple terms like "irony" or "protagonist" but then throws out words like "penultimate" and expects you to know what it means (second to last, by the way). I like her as a person, but not terribly much as a professor. She is cute though, fun to watch. HATE her revision process.

Prof Gauthier was extremely passionate about this class. She gave all the tools for the students to get a good grade but still expected work to be done by her students. A bit demanding at times but nothing she asked was too much. I definetely recommend her.

Marni is rude to students. She makes a spectacle out of you if you walk in late or forget your text which only wastes time, and will purposly call on you if you dont have your book. She actually said the name Alfred was awful (it was in a poem we studied) and then asked if anyone had that name in their family. I do. VERY unprofessional!

She is probably one of the most passionate, engaging professors I've ever had the pleasure of working with. Her choice of texts is consistently stellar. While her courses are rigorous and challenging, they are some of the best I've taken.

Dr. Gauthier has no patience for those who have less than ecstatic enthusiasm for the material. She is inconsiderate of other, unwilling to really help, and not judicious in choosing texts. She was poor at explaining the difficult material, esp. the 800+ page novel we had to read in one week. Do not encourage her despotism by taking her courses.

Marni was interesting. I wasn't sure what too expect, but found her willing to help if you didn't understand something. The reader's response papers were a pill though. If we could have discussed the points we were suppose to be coming up with in these responses prior to doing them, it would have made it a heck of a lot better. Hard tests.
