Comment:
His ability to accept students viewpoints depends on how much he has studied or written about the topic. I took his Almodovar class and his answer was the only one. He keeps trying to say his class is a discussion but lectures for nearly the whole 3 hour period. Does not give straight answers to simple questions or clarify things like essay topics

Very into his own ideas, not very into opinions that others may have. Considers ?100 years of solitude? author Gabriel GarcÃa Márquez a sell out for writing a book in English. Harbors the ludicrous notion that people of Latino decent are not represented in current pop culture and will not hear otherwise in his class.

Comment:
I have to strongly disagree with many of the previous comments stating that Marvin is disrespectful of students' opinions. He certainly becomes a little impatient with ignorance and flat-out stupidity but I've always found his classes to show all sides of an issue. AND he's always willing to help out students who've really applied themselves .

Prof. D'Lugo teaches a very interesting class with a lot of useful discussion. He pushes you to do your best and gives out good feedback on papers and such. He is also a very opinionated and pretentious man in general. His classes aren't easy, but they are interesting and worth taking.

Marvin D'Lugo is many things, from a tough grader to, as has been written, very full of himself and his ideas. He also in one of the smartest professors at Clark so if you can break through his pompus defenses, he is one of the best. Be interested in the topics and do the reading on time.

Comment:
D'Lugo thinks he knows everything because he wrote a book about Carlos Saura. Please. He is an excellent teacher, but in life there is no need to put people down in order to make yourself seem intelligent. You either are or your not and people will recognize that naturally.

I didn't like the class. He team teaches it with Maria Acosta-Cruz, neither care for any opinions except their own. They tell you to disagree with them and they say they want your opinions, THEY DON'T. They shoot you down, no matter how much information you have to support your opinion, you will drop your grade by speaking.

Comment:
Marvin is a smart and pompus man. He says he encourages discusion, but readily puts down students for incorrectness. Quizes were timed and followed by further lecture, making for very stressful quiz days. Class was well organized, but his personality got in the way of his teaching.

I was forced to take this class first semester my freshman year because I placed so high on my exams and it was the biggest mistake of college. He would mortify me in a class of all upperclassmen because I didn't know as much. It was also the only C I received in my entire life. He tried to fail me for forgetting to pay some fee which is insane.

I had him my freshman year and he totally reamed us to death. Also, I got sick with mono (had a note and everything) and he told me my excuse was pointless, dumb and wouldn't accept it as means to give me an extension. He's also full of himself.

I've had D'Lugo for various classes, and am not exactly sure how I feel about him. He encourages discussion and participation but then never seems to like or agree with what students say. It can be very unencouraging. he likes to have control and be right, but he is very intelligent.

Worst prof I have had in my 4 years at clark. Makes up his own terms and then grades you on them, does not take into account viewpoints different from his own.

Great teacher and very hard grader. He does not like a$$ kissers. Very strict but that is how learned so much in his class. If you don't like difficult and long classes take something else. His classes are for serious students.

marvin is radical. he doesn't take any ****, and i respect him for it. it does mean that sometimes he doesn't make a lot of friends among the students. he's brilliant. seriously.

I like this guy. He is very easy, and he weeds out the dumbasses who make stupid comments in class. First prof. I have known that will shoot down kids when they say something retarted.
