I thoroughly enjoyed Mary Emery's genuine support and care. She wasn't just a good teacher, she was a good person. Many of her words stay with me today. She was an inspiration.

I was very saddened to hear of Mary Emery's passing. She was a wonderful professor and truly did not deserve the reviews she received on here. She will be missed and it is unfortunate that future students will not have the privilege learn from her.

For the first part of the semester, she spent all lecture talking about food. She didn't get D2L to work, had no syllabus, and no class schedule. When it started getting closer to the end of the semester, she bombarded us with many writing assignments and essays (all about food) as if she forgot to assign them to the class earlier in the semester.

Every piece you read has some connection to food; the novels are great but the poetry and short stories are difficult. If you've never explicated poetry-GOOD LUCK. There is one correct interpretation and that is all she will accept. You'll have discussions where she is the only one who talks all period. Prepare to awkwardly talk about sex. AVOID!!

Although the food thing does get annoying, she does it because food is relatable in everyone's lives. It's a good concept but she loves it too much. Lots of small readings most nights, comma exercises, and also read 2 books, while also managing to type 4ish papers including the research paper which she takes a lot of pride in. Not a bad grader

I had her for World of Ideas and she is by far the easiest teacher for this course. The entire class consisted of a group project that took less than an hour.

DO NOT TAKE HER. People weren't kidding when they said all she does is talk about food. I've never been so bored in a class, and she never let you out early. The papers weren't too bad, but she was such a tough grader. Doesn't give you the grade you deserve. Takes FOREVER to grade and give back. YOU'LL REGRET TAKING HER.

Don't take her. All you talk about is food. She has doesn't seem to know how to get anyone to talk so you just end up looking at each other.

Absolutely hated this class. Did not learn one thing from her. EVERYTHING in this class relates to food which is weird. Read three books during the semester which are so boring. Papers are easy , first one you wrote about your favorite food. Lectures are the most boring, usually just sit on my phone. DO NOT TAKE HER

I hated this class. I literally played fruit ninja the entire time. I'm a women's studies minor; a miracle considering this was my introduction to the field of study. She has no idea how to stimulate discussion.

She assigns too much pointless things and never collects them. Everything has to relate to food. The class has taught me nothing. She doesn't teach the class much. The entire class period is sitting in a circle discussing pointless topics. I would highly recommend not taking her. I wish I would have read these reviews sooner.

This is more of a food class than an English class. English is my favorite subject and I absolutely despise going to her classes. She assigns so much pointless homework that rarely ever gets collected or goes towards your grade. She rambles on the whole hour and 15 minutes and you will just about fall asleep. Attendance is mandatory for no reason.

Don't make the mistake of taking her. She is a horrible teacher. I have learned nothing, all homework is done outside of class. In class, you listen to her talk and talk about absolutely nothing. Class revolves around food. Everything is about food. Prepare to hate yourself if you take her.

Prose Stylistics: Worthless as an instructor, sweet as a person. I have never wanted to NOT go to class so much as I did when taking this class. Instruction didn't help at all, time was wasted, waited until the end of the semester to give everyone the bulk of the assignments that needed turned in. AVOID HER LIKE THE PLAGUE!

Her lectures are incredibly boring, and attendance is mandatory. The grading for the class was really easy. Most papers were 2-3 pages, and she didn't collect most assignments. It took her ages to get anything graded, so it was hard to know what your grade was for the class. But, she is really nice and knows a lot about the subject.

In-person class however she did almost everything online. Horrible/inconsistent communication with us via D2L, would promise to upload/post things but didn't until weeks later. No work was graded by mid semester & less than 25% of it graded going in to finals. If you have to take this with her, just do it online, in class portion is pointless.

This is by far one of the worst professors i have ever had. Her classes are beyond boring, she talks pretty much to herself the entire time, as only her opinion matters in discussions, and puts assignments up the night before they are due. Very dissatisfied with this teacher and class.

She is an extreme feminist, dont even try to argue with her on anything. She's pretty easy overall except stupid study guides (some you have to make on your own). Not a terrible class but when she goes on a rant, you might as well day dream. Or not come to class, you wont miss anything. Exams are pretty easy, too.
