Very stats intensive. It would help if you know R Studio or Prism before class. Teaches a huge amount of stuff in such a short time!!! It's worth it, and I learned so much, and she is a awesome mentor and person in general, but beware of the huge amount of homework. It should be treated as a 6 credit, seriously.

This class is what you make of it-can be really easy or take up all of your time. She has high expectations and can be a hard grader but in the end your grade will reflect how much work you put in. Lots of emphasis on reading journal articles and doing your own research.

Seminar with Mary was very chill. It was basically a student-taught class, but Mary ALWAYS participated in every class with interesting questions. We had a lot of discussions and presentations. The 10+ single paged paper is no biggie. Mary and your classmates will give you a lot of input. You will do well if you have semi-good work ethic.

Her teaching style may be something you are not used to. Hang in there. It gets better into the semester. She is a nice person, ask questions if you are lost! She will be happy to answer them. She is a little disorganized but don't try to take an advantage of it. She is smart and is observing what/how you are doing in class. Be honest with her!

Brain States is the most amazing class I've taken at Smith. Mary is a wealth of knowledge. The class was very relaxed: there weren't a lot of assignments, but a manageable amount of reading. Be prepared to discuss anything and everything. I highly recommend this class to anyone wiling to be an active participant in a course.

Mary is amazing, assuming you don't need your hand held (she won't). She's a little flaky/disorganized, but she makes up for it with an overwhelming amount of knowledge in the field of anythinginneuroscienceyoucanthinkof, and she really genuinely does the best she can for her students. And if you ask her, she'll probably buy you a beer.

I chose Mary Harrington's section based on the comments posted here, and I seriously wish I hadn't. It's true that she's "nice" and faily easy going, but she does NOT explain assignments, and has a tendency to have a paper due on the same day as an exam. She is not right. I DO NOT recommend her.
