Althouse is a funny and personable professor but very old fashioned. Reading the two books are very important if you want to do well on weekly pop quizzes and his three tests. Study hard since there's only three. VERY strict on attendance so show up. DON'T wait till the last minute for the research paper and prepare for the group presentation.

He will hand out grades in front of all the students and try to shame people for what they receive; I got good grades, but this was still uncomfortable. Especially when he announces who got the highest grades. Also, he has a lot of unreasonable rules on his syllabus. He tried to kick out one student for eating a starburst... Kind of an egomaniac.

You are graded on three tests (each 200 points), a paper, a group presentation, and pop quizzes. You should spend around 5 hours studying and attendance is mandatory but he gives 3 days you can skip without it affecting your grade.

Class is mandatory but he gives you three free excused absences. Lectures are boring and he trys to make them humorous but ends up relating topics to things the current generation has no clue about and ends up just confusing the class. Tests arent hard if you read the textbooks.

Professor Althouse is awesome! He is very clear with what he expects and how he grades. He makes the material fun and engaging and will keep you laughing. He will give pop quizzes if he suspects you didn't do the readings. He genuinely cares about his students.

Honestly an amazing professor who cares about his students and the things he teaches. He does assign A LOT of reading which can be pretty unpleasant but he recognizes it and tries to make up for it in humor.

I don't know why Dr. Althouse has a bad reputation. He is honestly funny (but corny), incredibly smart, and gives a clear grading criteria. He takes attendance but you get 3 free skips. Just participate by answering questions you know, write down what is on his slides, and read the assigned chapters. I would definitely take more classes with him.

The only thing important in his lectures are what is on his slides. Reading the assigned chapters is mandatory in order to pass. As long as you read the book, the tests are pretty general. I recommend taking notes as you read the chapters.

He's really nice and tells corny jokes all throughout his lectures. He speaks clearly so reviewing for the tests is super easy. He doesn't take attendance but he gives pop quizzes or in-class writing assignments a couple times a week. They're all really easy but annoying. I really liked him.

One of the smartest professors i've ever had. He is a tough grader and the assigned readings are pretty dry, but are important in the tests. Class is full of dad jokes and he's a great speaker, as long as you participate and pay attention you could easily get a B in this class.

Althouse is a great guy, although CMC 211 was boring at times, he still tried to spice it up with some decent humor. His tests (3 big exams) weren't too hard, but if you don't study, you will not pass. I finished with a B, but it could've been better had I handed in a paper on time. Kind of anal w paper grading, outside of that, not a bad class.

Althouse is ok, CMC 211 was a little tougher than I expected but I still did well. Lectures can get boring, but not awful. He is very serious about the group project at the end of the semester.

He is not clear about what he wants for an assignment and if you email him to ask, he won't usually answer. Tests are hard, but doable if you work for it. Also, he makes what should be a really interesting class extremely boring.

A little bit dry, not warm and fuzzy, but definitely fair and a nice guy. If you do the reading, participate, and don't be an ass, you won't have a problem. He just expects you to act like a decent human being in class, which is apparently a problem for some people.

Dr. Althouse is genuinely interested in students doing well in his class. However, he does not make all of his expectations clear to students. He appears to desire to distinquish himself from other professors by the requirements of his course. He is a scholarly professor who loves history and expects his students to think critically. Bereadytowork!

Old school teacher, gives pop quizzes and RARELY does notes in class, if at all. EVERYTHING you learn is in the reading and you do tons of it. The tests are all from the reading. Need to participate because he literally writes down every time you do for points. Learn literally the bare minimum in class and he talks very weird, wouldn't recommend.

This class is probably one of if not the hardest class I have taken in college. Everything is out of the text and if you don't read 5498746 pages then you will be lost. The content sucks and that's not his fault but to give essay exams in a class that's based 100% out of the text from a B.C time period is bull. Nothing about this class is good.

Overall a great guy. Don't be afraid of the ratings on this site. I was and now I'm giving the guy a great review. His classes are interesting, he's really funy and really cares and knows his stuff. But you need to Put in the work. Take his class seriously and you'll do great! Have fun with him. Despite what you think he likes to have fun in class
