Dr. Childs is an amazing professor. If you did not do well in this class you probably did not go to class. Yes, you must go to class everyday and make sure to take good notes. His lectures are not boring in the contrary, they are interesting and full of insight. I highly recommend him if you truly want to learn about Latin American History.

Hardest class I took at FSU. Gave only 2 tests and 2 essays. Got a c- only because he had to curve eveyones grades because 80% of the class was failing. I asked the TA for that info.

Knows a lot about the subject. But his class is very boring. He posts slides online but there are a lot more notes taken in class. Pay lots of attention and go to class. Exams are essay based, prompts are given a week in advance So you need to know EVERYTHING. Discussion classes suck and you have to read a lot. 2 essays on book, really hard grader

This teacher is rude and his class is not as easy as everyone is making it out to be. And he gives you three different essays to study during finals, so you can spend all your time studying something that you are not going to get graded for. His lectures are not easy to follow because he is so unenthusiastic about the material!

Dr. Childs is a nice guy, but he teaches his 1000 level class like it is a 3000 or 4000 level class. There is extensive reading every week and the two exams are essay based . He gives you three optional promps, but it's really hard to study for three different prompts. If you're not strong at essays don't take this class.

I took this on my first semester during summer. He is easy and very helpfull. His test are multiple choice, but I heard that he also have essay test. He made us read 2 books during summer that was crazy not a lot of time to read and In addition you had to make a book report on it. However I hardly study went to all his class and got an A-. Dr. Childs is a wonderful teacher. He is incredibly knowledgable when it comes to Latin American History. Go to his class everyday and take notes, and it is a very easy A. This man is knowledgable and fair - but if you want to skid by, forget it! If you want to learn, do NOT pass up any of his classes. He's been very helpful with getting me into grad school because he knows I work hard.
