Hockenos is definitely one of my favorite professors at Skidmore. Total dad. His classes are very structured and assignments are the same every week so you know what to expect. He pretty much tells you what's on the exams but there's a lot to cover so it's really up to you to know your stuff.

I had Hockenos for a Scribner Seminar, so he probably made the class easier than he would for a 200 level class, but regardless, the assignments were really easy to keep up with. He's also generally a funny, down to earth person - definitely not one of those 'loves to hear themself speak' professors.

Hockenos is great. extremely difficult, requires a lot of reading, writing, and his tests are serious. but if you read a lot and study hard, you will do well. he is very quirky and there are all sorts of rumors out there, definitely a fun class to be in all around. his 300-level classes are not for the faint of heart but worth every second.

I took Jewish-Christian Relations with Prof Hockenos as my freshman seminar, and it was simply wonderful. Hockenos is incredibly knowledgeable, and encourages lively discussions. The reading was extensive but interesting. Hockenos himself is quirky and personable -he had our entire class over for a dinner he prepared himself! HIGHLY recommended

damn, is he tough, but DAMN is he good.. he really knows his stuff, it's just a matter of his developing his ability to convey information to you as a student. his brain is crammed full of information, and trying to draw from it is like trying to drink from a fire hose. tests are pretty tough, but manageable. good guy, funny at very random times.

Sharp fellow. Great lecturer. At times akward, but in an endearing way. High expectations, lots of reading, lots of writing. In the intro levels there's a lot of busy work that forces you to read all of the voluminous material but that you're glad for later when you're tested on it. Tough, tough grader. All in all, you have got to love the guy.
