Comment:

Max Grober is an alright professor whose classes are discussion based. He does not like to lecture. He is very knowledgeable so that means he wants his students to almost be on the same knowledge scale as him. His only grades are 3 tests and is very critical. He claims he is not critical just as long as you get the point across but it isn't true.

Polite and somewhat awkward. Classes are entirely discussion-based (on assigned readings). I found him to be a somewhat easy grader, as long as you do the readings and know what you're doing before coming into a test you'll be fine. He wants you to write down as much info as you can remember on test essays. Lectures can sometimes get long-winded

Max is a professional historian who is one of, if not the most knowledgeable professors on this campus. His lectures are somewhat tough to follow,and he expects alot from his students, but if you put in the effort, his amazing teaching abilities become very noticeable.

Max runs pleasant discussion-focused classes, especially in the upper divisions, and attempts to engage the class with the material as something not to be passively absorbed, but analyzed and internalized. If the class doesn't read, however, class can draw on slowly.

Max was the best professor I had at Austin College, period. Alot of the "criticisms" against him are based on the fact that he challenges you, expects you to do the readings, and grades like a professor should grade. He is a historian's historian - brilliant, passionate, always helpful. If you're lazy, I can see why you wouldn't like him.

Max is one of the best professors I had at AC. He was awesome, and taught me so much. He was the reason I ended up a history major, and he made it worth it for me. I think I ended up taking 4 or 5 of my 8 required classes from this man. Max- you rock!!

His 300+ level history classes can be awkward sometimes, because they're very discussion-oriented and pauses sometimes supervene, but Max most often is happy to digress on whatever issue has been raised with a truly valuable breadth of knowledge and keenness of interpretation. A fun, smart guy, and a very fair grader.

He speaks really fast & he reads all of it off a paper, its hard to take notes. He gives so much information u never know what will come on the final.Not helpfull, told me there are "unspoken expectations in History" How the hell should I know its only a dimesion not my major.

He's a great teacher. Knows a lot about any subject in history and some not involving history and is really passionate about it. Very fair grader and glad to answer your questions. He is funny too and sometimes he wears pink shirts.
