Max is difficult bc he voices his true opinion and a lot of people can't handle that. Non writing majors shouldn't take his classes and writing majors should learn to accept the criticisms w/out running to mommy.

Some can't stand him; I think he's alright. To be honest, I think it depends on whether he likes you and your writing. He holds stubborn opinions and sometimes steers you in directions you weren't planning to go, but he's got years more experience, so I tend to listen. You'll never know where your grade stands, so just forget about it and write.

Professor Westler is irrational at times. He seems to grade on his emotions for the day and not on the work himself. Although he can be helpful in weeding through drafts, dont be surprised if your end piece makes him more happy than yourself.If you are thick skinned go for it. dont expect him to kiss your ass/ be positive. ever. good luck

As a writing major, I can say that Max changed my life. He is not always easy on you but that isn't his job. He'll teach you to know and express yourself, and in the end that is a worthwhile thing. I think everyone could gain from learning to write and express themselves, especially women.

I love Max outside of class, but as a professor he has a tendency to suck a bit. Max can be a ridiculous ass sometimes, but every so often he surprises you. Don't take his classes if you are overly sensitive about criticism, because you will receive it in abundance. In fact, if you're not a writing major, steer clear of him entirely. If you are a writing major, pray a LOT of rosaries.

Max was a great professor if you were a writing major because he weeds out those who aren't performing to their capability. If you're a Creative writer there is only so much you can do to improve your writing... you either have it or you don't. Any body can learn to write an essay. Max challenged those who he didn't think we're making it and was even harder on those who were. So what if he was a prick... his job isn't to be your friend.

Pretty full of himself, and doesn't give very constructive criticism. Thinks he's the best poet ever. Nothing against him, actually got a good grade in the class, honestly just don't think he's a good professor. Miss more than one day of class and you get at least one grade down (from A to B ex.)
