Prof. Shaw looks pretty scary but he it so sweet. Very sad to see this guy leave CofC. Totally knew his stuff and was enthusiastic about it. LOVED his class. You'll learn so much with him it's crazy.

Comment:

Max is a great teacher, knows his subject, and wants you to learn. His lectures are interesting and he can be quite humorous. There are daily assignments, so attendance is a must. There are 6 oral exams outside of class so pay attention, take notes, read through the chapter, know the maps.

Max is the man! He is a great teacher and a nice guy. You will learn a lot about the world in a short amount of time. He gives 6 oral exams(not as bad as it sounds) and even gives you a chance to make one up if you fail it or oversleep. Assignments due everyday and attendance is a must!

A really great teacher, teaches you a LOT in a small amount fo time. Don't take if you're bad at oral exams. He's very liberal when it comes to capitalism and is very open about his opinions. Overall a great guy.

Comment:

Nice guy,definitely to the left of Stalin. Tries to convert students with bull@#$%*, to his political beliefs. Gives a lot of information, but if you study hard and can repeat garbage you can make an A. If you want to tell most liberals to shutup and stop whining then don't take this class.

Hes the man, plain and simple. He has taught me more usefull information than any other teacher I have had. The tests are intense but if you study youll do ok. DONT MISS CLASS if you expect to keep up because he covers material for the full amount of time and he never misses a day.

He now does 6 oral exams-easy to study for just read your notes aloud. oral exams are easy because he'll let you come back to the ? etc. You get an A if you study for a couple hours before the test. He's traveled the world in the Navy, he knows how the world is- if you did youd be a "communist" too.

Badass professor, crazy as hell, but one of the best informed human beings ive come into contact with. Did not take detailed notes, which i would not reccomend, and still ended up with a B. 3 Oral tests with 5 cards to pick from on the choice for topics. I would take him again.

A nice guy and very smart, but he is definitely a communist. He gives interesting notes, however he gives tons of info that you are have to know for his oral exams. Usually 3 tests( he gives a make up test too), daily quizzes (super easy)and attendance policy (strict & will drop if you miss alot).

This guy is to the political Left of Chavez & Castro. He knows his stuff but teaches with an agenda - but what do you expect from PoliSci professors? Just know these things going in because real life isn't as he likes to depict it!

Very interesting class and you will learn a lot after you leave. Oral exams are somewhat difficult so make sure you have studied the sheets with terms on it backwards and forwards. Also missing a class is horrible here as he covers 2-3 chapters every class. If you go to class you should be fine.

this guy is out of control..don't take him-rediculous 1 on 1 tests-expects waaay to much for a 100 level course-basically got cataracs my eyes from the enormous amount of reading he expects-arm almost fell off from the 200 lbs of paper used from taking useless notes-horrible attendence plcy-very bad
