I wasn't an art major, and it was somewhat of a mistake to take the class having no practical experience. However, I left with an entirely new vocabulary and the ability to process and dialogue with/about pieces in a such a way that made a well-earned B- was worth all my pain.

THis was one of the most difficult classes I've ever taken. She stated at the beginning of the class that she'd never had a class as good as ours and that our first pieces were as good as most classes finals...unfortunately for us that ment we spent the rest of the semester trying to live up to some standard nobody was able to meet. I'm still praising God for the B i walked away with. Hardest I ever worked for ANY grade in my entire life.

I have never worked so hard for a C- in my life especially in a subject I have always excelled. She'd look at my work and tell me it was perfect, and not to change it, then she'd give me a D or F! I don't understand her reasoning, but she abolished any tho

Melanie is a great teacher and is very passionate about her work and her students. she is always willing to help and will extend the efforts to make sure you are able to complete her class sucessfully. be kind and respectful and she will treat you with equal respect.

Very unclear about assignments. Very flakey. Bad communicator. Not as tough as most make her out to be. I feel like she gave up on our class from the start. She didn't seem to really care about getting to know us or helping us. This school costs too much for professors to screw around. Disappointed.

This class can be a little difficult if you're not as experienced in art. She loves art that means something and is professional. She has very high expectations that can be hard to live up to if you haven't perfected a certain medium. I wasn't very experienced, so it was difficult for me.

I really enjoyed being in this class because we generally did absolutely nothing. However, her methods of grading ARE arbitrary and it is impossible to live up to her standard of detail that is required for an A unless you are an artist

this prof has obvious adamant favorites. It is a hard class to be in with studio art AND graphic design majors, the two mediums are extremely different and she doesn't recognize that and/or work with students who are open about frustrations and questions.
